Larry Rubin:Overall, I came away with the impression that Avid has turned an important corner involving focusing on the user's needs and wants, and steering the R & D in those directions.
I've been saying this for months, glad you got a chance to see why. :-)
Now time and resources are their only enemy. (Oh, and their marketing department which so far has failed to educate the market on why the performance of MC is worth more than FCP...)

switthaus:Makes me wonder if Avid would not be smart to kill the Symphony, but keep the color correction module as an optional add-on for folks who buy MC/NDX.
Ah, the poor DS advocates are still praying for the demise of Symphony... ;-)
Scott,
Has it occurred to you that they may be planning more feature sets added that will widen the gap between the two systems?
Larry Rubin:While it does appear that the prices are pretty much set and not going to change
Hi Larry,
You didn't happen to ask Mr. Greenfield about the MCA upgrade prices or assurance prices. did you? I would really like to hear something from an official Avid spokesperson, who is allowed to talk, that these issues are being addressed.
Thanks
Andy

Surprisingly enough, there was virtually no discussion at all about the pricing, either regarding the announced purchase price or upgrade path prices, everyone was far more interested in looking at and comparing the features of the two systems. Frankly, I thought about asking him some of those questions at one point, but judging from the conversations of others with him both before and after mine, I just didn't feel it was the right time to try to "back him into a corner". Perhaps Marianna can step in and provide the upgrade path prices, IF they've even been set yet - I would tend to believe they are not or they would have been announced last night along with the purchase prices.

I believe that if the pressure is not applied before the pricing is set it will be "status quo" quickly followed by the head being firmly thust back into the sand for a rest after all this "new thinking"
I would love to be proved wrong but there have been far too many head buried in the sand precedents set on this one for my liking.
Andrew:
Suggest you email Marianna and ask her if she can add any pricing info to this thread. If anyone can shed some light on this, it should be her.
Brickwad....
Come Monday when we release the new editors, there will be some news on Assurance to share. As for the MCA upgrade pricing, there are many different ones that will be available from software to software, hardware only, product upgrades to the new DX etc. Once we release, I can comment and that will be Monday.

Marianna, as always, thank you very much for the update. You're the one person we can always rely on for dependable, unfiltered news and information.
I got a question about Vista support for MC... it says MC 3 is certified for Vista Business edition; what about Ultimate? I was under the impression that Ultimate was a supieor edition compared to Business? Or is Business just the minimum?

Business is all that's been tested. Don't know why ultimate wasn't.

I don't think there will be conflict as the the underlying code is the same (like XPro, MC and Symphony).

MC is actually what will break the camel's back for me in regards to installing Vista.
