OK guys, I put this thread up again to give you some callback.

Finally, I bought an OEM licence of XP Pro... And it works, softmodding the GeForce 8800 GTS into a Quadro. I dont't need to change Open GL version (on the other side, just changing Open GL from 2.0 to 1.5 is not enough to make MC3 running).

As a conclusion, I give you this little advise: buy on eBay. Seriously, I found series of genuine XP Pro. The fact is that (in France, I guess it's the same in other countries) some manufacturers have tons on XP licences because companies want workstations with Linux. So they sell their IBM or Dell OEM Windows on eBay... I payed mine 30 € ($47,5). Wink

So the "Force OpenGL 1.5" fix didn't work for you?  That's interesting -- yours is the first report I've heard where this didn't work.  Did changing this setting in Rivatuner simply make no difference to Avid?  Which drivers were you using?

What about the "Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Threaded optimization > Turn Off" fix, which was reported in other threads as being an alternative to the Soft Mod and OpenGL 1.5 fixes (http://community.avid.com/forums/t/61129.aspx)?

    Thanks for the report,

    Larry

I should try this... For the moment, just changing Open GL version from 2.0 to 1.5 makes Avid failing when starting ACPL Effects. Anyway, I never managed to start MC3 without softmoding into a Quadro...

I'm using nVidia forceware bundled with MC3 : v169.47 for WInXP.

I could swear that I found a post or two talking about using the "OpenGL 1.5" fix with XP, but now I'm wondering if this fix was limited to Vista systems.  Can anybody confirm having used the 1.5 fix on an XP system?

Please let us know if turning off "threaded optimization" works for you.

You could also try a newer driver -- they're up to 175.19 for 8000 series cards now.  I actually haven't heard of anyone trying these drivers with Avid at ALL yet, so who knows -- maybe they'll work without ANY fixes (new, "unqualified" drivers have fixed Avid issues in the past.)  Based on the behavior, this definitely seems like a driver-related issue.

    Thanks,

    Larry

    Larry,

I am dual booting Vista 64 and XP 32  The Vista system would not load past the ACPL screen until i forced open gl 1.5.  The XP system did not need any tweaks in order to run on my hardware which is listed below.

    Intel Q9300 2.5ghz

NVIDIA 9800 GTX OC by MSI

    ASUS P5K deluxe system board

    8gb ddr2-1066

    WD 10k RAPTOR X

    Seagate 1tb SATA 3.0

    Syba FW 800 PCI-e

This just keeps getting stranger.  I've read of Vista systems not needing any fixes to work with newer Geforce cards, but I believe this is the first time I've read of an XP system that did this?  You're 100% sure that it was the XP boot (and not the Vista boot) that did not need the fix, correct?

    Which drivers did you use?

    Thanks,

    Larry

     Hi

I have just joined your club.

    Q9450 XP PRO 8800GT.

I couldn't start MC3. I did try the RivaTNT 1.5 openGl and it didn't work for me.

But I have found that you must force the 1.5 OpenGl for both displays! No need to reboot

     Hi

I forgot to write I use XP..

Force OpenGL 1.5 for both displays (It was not enough to "force" it only on 1 display) worked on my system, running XP PRO.

Is the Force OpenGL 1.5 an adjustment that's in the driver control panel or in Riva Tuner ?  I'm a tad confused..

The "Force OpenGL 1.5" fix is a Rivatuner setting.

The "Turn off Threaded Optimization" fix is done with the Nvidia Control Panel. i.e. "Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Threaded optimization > Off."  (http://community.avid.com/forums/t/61129.aspx)?

    Re: Graphics Card Question

    Anybody running  MC 3 successfully on a GeForce 8600M GS (=notebook) ?

if 8400 and 8800 do work, should this 8600 not work also? On the other hand, it´s only GS, and mobile, too...

    thanks!

     There are comparison tables here

    http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=539&pgno=1

Check your GPU number, and cross refer to the quadro list. That'll tell you what you'll be able to soft mod to.

Hi, I'm a bit retarded so bear with me.  What do you mean when you say you have to force 1.5 for "both displays?"  Do you mean if you have two monitors or two operating systems or what?  I've just ordered my system and it should be arriving in a day or two so this may all make sense when I get it and install Rivia TNT.
