Hi All,
I recently export QT's as same as source. Now when I import them they are not going "fast import" as I would have expected. I checked the QT file info and it reveals they are indeed Avid DNxHD codec files, and I am using a project with the exact same setup as the one I exported from, so why would the MCA not recognize them as DNx files?
Any insight would be greatly appeciated.

You might have to double check your import settings and make sure that it matches the source files specs exactly as your import settings will overide your project settings. The best way to check that your import settings are correct is to see whether you get a fast import on the progress bar, which your not getting so cancel the import and play with the options under the image tab of the import tool.
Generally speaking you should check your export settings and even if it was set to same as source then check aspect, color levels and resolution than make sure those options are consistent upon import.
Fast import does work really well - I get up to 4 hours a day of rushes using the DNxHD quicktimes and my assistant wouldn't be sleeping unless it fast imported!
Out of curiosity why are you exporting 'same as source' only to reimport the same clip? Obviously if you are altering the clip in after fx or some other program then you will need to check your color levels and other render settings from that program.
Hope this helps,
Matt
Thanks Matt,
To answer your question: The QTs were export so we would have digital files to work with when we got around to building a website, but at the time we were not sure what we would be doing with the files, so I just exported the full shows same as source. Now that we know what we want to do with them, I need to bring them back in and make some edits. But unfortunately this may not work as the Fast import seems to have been broken somehow.
I am concerned this may be a bug in 2.8, as I have done this type of thing before, and never had this issue. And I had checked to make sure that all export/import settings were consistent, so I am stumped as to why it doesn't like these files. Oh well. Actually a friend of mine suggested I try Final Cut to see if it might import them more easily. Believe me, not something I am looking forward to trying.
It is a bug. You have to import in RGB levels (I believe) to get Fast import to work.

Really? That's a life saver if it works. I'll try, and post back.

No joy. I have confirmed that exporting same as source and re-exporting does work on 2.8, but I originally exported these files with 2.6, and I think something broke after the upgrade.
But now there is a new and interesting problem: When I export a QT from MCA at anything other than Same As Source, the first 5 or 6 seconds of audio is totally garbled. Essentially what I would like to do is export a SD 16x9 QT of my HD show. But it ain't lettin me. Apparently I have not fed the import/export gremlins, and they are pissed.
ALSO, MCA crashes when trying to change any Format Options in the export settings dialogue box.
Are you using QT 7.3.1?

Yes, I made sure I had the correct version. I've even re-installed the MCA software, still getting the bizarre garbled audio for 6 seconds when exporting anything other than Same As Source.
Having just been handed 10 DVD's to make a pitch tape I trawled the forums for the best way to get these baby's in. I am SO glad for the 'Use 'Cinematize' tip! Its amazing - it rips the DVD to a Quicktime file using Avid DV Codec. Fast Import was then working a treat...and then it stopped...on the exact same settings.
I havent got to the bottom of it yet as I need to cut, but it is a bit odd to start that mid job ....sounds buggy...

Are you on version 2.8? Cos if so it's starting to sound like a bug.
