    P2 files/no audio

I'm transfering MXF files from a P2 card into my Storage drive. I've dropped my media off into a numerically labeled folder in my storage drive.

For some reason, a few of my clips do not have the audio attached. I'm pretty sure I dropped both my audio and video into the same folder.

Is there anyway to tell if the audio files that go with the clip are in the right MXF folder? I've searched by date. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to distinguish between what MXF files are video and which are audio.

Anyone run into this issue where the audio goes missing?

    Thanks.

Not to derail the troubleshooting but, is  there  a reason you don't use  the "Import P2 Media" command workflow?

Mmmmm...not familiar with it. I was just taught to dump them into a designated folder in your storage directory and then just drop them into your bins from the the media tool.

Ok, that's all good and well. However, I've already got my files in on my hard drive. I'm just looking for a way to find the missing audio or re-link it.

Well, I guess I was hoping you might see a flaw in your workflow that could lead you to the missing audio.

Is it possible that the audio didn't make it to your drives?

    Re: P2 files/no audio

I hope not. Otherwise, I'm screwed. The P2 card has been formatted since then. It's a pretty simple process. Just drag and drop. I guess I'm looking for a way to identify which MXF files are video, and which are audio. that would narrow doen my search a bit.

    Re: P2 files/no audio

It's easy to identify audio and video files copied from P2.  Video will be XXXXXX.mxf, and audio will be XXXXXX00.mxf, XXXXXX01.mxf, XXXXXX02.mxf,and XXXXXX03.mxf, where XXXXXX is an alphanumeric label of the form 0001LS or 0027T3.

You should be able to reconstruct a fake P2 directory structure which as far as Avid is concerned need only consist of the CONTENTS folder containing just the AUDIO and VIDEO folders.  Move the video files and their associated audio files from Avid MediaFiles into the appropriate folders, launch Avid, and import the media from your new P2 drive.

If you want to be totally safe you can construct that folder structure inside a folder called something like fake P2.  To access it, use the Run box in the Windows start menu.  Type subst F: "D:\fake P2" in the Run window and press Enter.  F: is any free (unused) drive letter on your system, and D: is the drive letter for the drive that you put fake P2 on.
