we currently have avid adrenaline in house but i can't stand how there is no way of contrasting without increasing the saturation. on a smoke you can just increase the black or white level without messing up the chrominance. same with shake - there's a contrast luminance node.
is this possible within symphony? just contrast luminance without touching the chrominance? similar to a bleach bypass.
thanks!
ian.
AFAIK, you could only compensate for the extra chroma by desaturating.
that never gives the same values though. ends up looking terrible.
:(
...and Manipulating just the top and bottom ends of the luma curve still gives you too much chroma change?
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

i don't currently own a symphony so i'm not sure if the levels can just isolate the luminance channel.
if you crank the contrast on levels does it become more saturated?
thanks a ton,
No Ian, on your Adrenaline, if you go to the CC tool and select the curves tool, you can manipulate just the top and bottom of the luminance curve. I was wondering if this would get you closer to what you want.
this is a sample of contrast and contrast luminance. http://sequence.tc/avid/lumcont.jpg

Yeah, I know the difference, What I'm asking you is can you do the same thing with just the luma curve in the curves tool?
no. not on media composer. that's why i'm wondering if the symphony lets you isolate just the luminance within the levels.
thanks,
Yes, on Symphony you can use the levels controls and isolate luma to get the look you're going for.
I don't think so. Pretty much everything I've tried affects chroma too.
I'm doing that now Steve but the levels are still changing the chroma.
Ah...I missed the tab to isolate just the luminance.
I found that today and yes, you can do just as Steve suggests.
Thanks BlackDog for clearing that up. I figured if you said it can't be done, I must be crazy.
