    Nitris DX w/o BOB

Just trying to plan ahead here. Will be purchasing a new Nitris DX system, but was curious if I will be able to move the dongle from my edit suite system to a laptop for work on the road as well? Since I'll never be using both systems at the same time I was hoping to save a little money by being able to buy just one. Willl the Symphony Nitris be able to run as a software only system if the BOB is not present? Or will I also need to purchase a separate Media Composer Dongle too?

The Symphony does not launch without hardware. Only MC soft will do that.

Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

Just tried it. Even though AXP will launch with an MC dongle attached, MC won't launch with a Symphony Nitris dongle attached. Don't know why, would be nice if this were possible, if only for when the hardware fails.

That's too bad. It'd be nice to have the color corrections I make in my suite to stay with my cuts as I travel. Thanks for the quick reply.

Actually, I think the corrections will travel with you, you just can't adjust them. I think...

I just want to point out that the NitrisDX is the BOB.  The NitrisDX hardware can be attached to either a Media Composer or a Symphony.

I really hope that people don't start the bad habit (like they did with MCA) where they refer to the software by the hardware attached.  How many times have you heard someone say they are using "Adrenaline"?...  that could be either NewsCutter or MC.
