I've been working with Avid Xpress Pro HD for more than an year and now I have to decide where to go (or not to). The thing is: to change to Media Composer, I'll have to convince my boss that it's necessary or at least that it wil help us someway.

Is the lack of support (that will eventually come) already a reason good enough? What are the actual advantages for someone who works with basic edition, but is willing to learn and explore new features? Which aspects of MC could make it more interesting for me?

Has the basic platform edition changed too much? I mean, shall I have to relearn a lot?

The interface is almost exactly the same.  There are a few things that are different (segment mode behavior is the major one that seems to jump out at people), but if you are proficient with Xpress Pro, moving up to Media Composer shouldn't cause you any trouble at all.

As far as I'm concerned, the fact that the upgrade price is only $495 is enough reason to upgrade.

I`ve been using Avid Xpress Pro but I`m having some problems with the exportation of movies. I've learned here in the forum that the problem was caused by QuickTime 7.4. But I`ve already installed the QT 7.2 (recommended) and the problems still hapen.

I`m ataching an example of the problem I`m having. My question is: will these problems still happen with the upgrade to MC?

In order to help you, we need to know your detailed system specifications.

If you upgrade to Media Composer without determining if the problem is a hardware/software problem or a setting you should change, the problem will still be there.

No, that  problem is not caused by any particular version of QT. Rather, it is caused by squeezing or stretching your  frame size when you encode.

One simple way to get a QT that will burn cleanly is to export as a DV Stream from the  Avid and use that to burn your DVD.
