I've been told both ways - any advice?
I would steer clear of XP Home, historically on occasion users will experience some sort of permissions issue with their user accounts that will cause a large number of problems with the Avid. XP Pro provides a simple way to change those permissions, XP Home requires an OS install.
Also, you could try a search here on the forums for horror stories related to XP Home.
The worst part about Home is that everything can appear to be running normally, then out of the blue Avid will fall over with an access error. Once it does that the only real fix is to reinstall Windows, then Avid, then anything else you need.
Don't do it.
So youre suggesting XP Pro then ??

Hi Peter,
The Xpress Pro System Requirements call for XP Professional. As it says on the page, "If your system does not meet the minimum system specifications, it may not work."
Can you run Xpress Pro on XP Home? Probably, but there's no guarantee it will work. Should you run Xpress Pro on XP Home? No, because if you run into problems, it will be harder to solve them, as Kenton and jwrl have pointed out.
good luck,Carl
