HI all
I am trying to capture from a grey Panasonic AY-DVM63AMQ Advanced Master to My Avid XP 5.7 though a Sony DSR-11. The tape played fine straight to my TV monitor, but when importing to avid there is no sound and the picture does not capture. I get the following error:
Exception, video signal present but not captured'.
Two other standard Panasonic DV tapes used by the same camera op for the same project I have had no problems with. My audio project settings are as follows: 48 KhZ, 16 Bit, WAVE, Unlocked Audio, Convert Sample Rates Always. Fine with the standard tapes but this 'Master Tape' is not being so co operative. I have done all the obvious: check cables, restart PC, cry a little, try some different settings, clean tape and deck, play back to monitor (still ok) and I imported a bin from another project and that was ok too. There seems to be very little on the WWW about capturing from this tape to Avid so can someone please help.
Cheers
i was told by a sales rep that those tapes used a differant lubricant and to only use one kind of tape but i use them all the time intermixing them on both camera and deck with no prob

Tape stock should have no effect on capture unless it clogs the heads.
Have you verified that the tape was recorded in standard play DV or DVCam? The DSR-11 will not play back a DV/DVCam tape recorded in LP mode

Are you sure the tape plays perfectly in the DSR 11 deck to a normal monitor? Also, do you have deck control and can you see the tape in the window even when are not capturing? Lastly, are you able to capture other tapes with your AVID the way it is now? The tape stock has nothing to do with it but some cameras and decks can have a small amount of shift between record and playback heads which can cause inconsistencies. This is rare but does happen. But if the tape plays fine to the monitor, the problem is likely not tape related. Unless your tape is PAL. I dont remember if that deck does multiformat playback - anyone?
HI guys, thanks for a good response.
Yes it plays back fine to a normal monitor and I have full deck control when it's in there, will shuttle and play (with no audio) in the preview window. The DSR-11 does do multi format playback and the tape is pal, i am UK. Was filmed in Standard Definition. Still not working today, any other thoughts
Sorry, and yes I have captured other tapes (different kinds) with no problems
SORTED
I have spoken to guy who filmed it and he is going to give me a version on normal Mini DV tape.
End of !
(I hope)
