Hi
Does anyone know where I can get an upgrade from Studio Complete 5.2.1 (i think) to 5.7? Apparently I need to do this before upgrading to MC 2.8
Been looking around net for ages and can't seem to find.
Thanks in advance
Hi,
Are you sure you need to go to 5.7? This is from the Upgrade FAQ:
Q. I have an older version of Avid Xpress Pro and I would like to upgrade to Media Composer software. Do I need to have the latest version of Avid Xpress Pro prior to upgrading?A. No, the Avid Xpress Pro to Media Composer upgrade applies to all versions of Avid Xpress Pro.
If I'm reading this correctly, you ought to be able to upgrade Xpress Pro straight to Media Composer.
good luck,Carl

I've read on the Studio forum that you do need Studio 5.7 and I've tried doing it without because I was unsure and Pro Tools broke and wouldn't load.
I don't have any experience with Studio, so hopefully someone who knows for certain will post about the specifics of upgrading. Sorry I don't have better information for you.
bump?
I've asked one of the Studio mods to take a look at this and see if he can give you an answer. Hopefully he'll post on here soon.
Your Studio dongle contains a license for Xpress Pro which is identical to the standalone version license. You can upgrade accordingly.

Thanks for the link Adman. I read in a post on this forum that you have to be on studio 5.7 first and then you can go to MC. I tried upgrading without doing the 5.7 bit and pro tools wouldn't launch.
So, am I to understand then that you have already upgraded to Media Composer, after which Pro Tools won't launch? Unfortunately, you can no longer run Pro Tools and Media Composer on the same computer... gasp. This is due to the driver that ships with Media Composer not being compatible with the driver for Pro Tools. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future, but for now we have to live with it I'm afraid. I am as frustrated as the next guy, fwiw.
Also, fwiw, your dongle does not contain any license for ProTools and has nothing to do with installing or using Pro Tools. The hardware interface (mbox or 002) for Pro Tools serves as its dongle. The iLok contains the license for your ProTools plugins, but not Pro Tools per se.
Hi Adman
I get the whole thing about licences now and that seems logical. I think I may be experiencing software incompatibilty - maybe I should try again and write sown the error message.
Hey David-
Did you ever get the upgrade to work with Pro Tools?
In the link below, on page 3, it says the qualified version of Pro Tools LE is 7.3.1.
Not sure if that only ships with the Studio 5.7 upgrade or if it can be found separately.
