Media Composer on Macbook Pro 2.2 Ghz?

Hello, I was wanting to purchase MC academic for my Macbook Pro 2.2 GHz intel core 2 duo. I am running osx v. 10.4.11, 2gb ram, qt 7.4.5(unfortunately I hear). I looked on the site and saw that this particular model of macbook pro (2.2 ghz) was not on the recommended list.

Has anyone run this model of macbook pro with media composer academic? Will it run on this? I appreciate the help very much!

    Thank you!

Given that the older 2.16 model is supported as well as newer models, I would think there would be no issue running MC 2.8 on that laptop.  Closely compare your 2.2 and the 2.16.  Is there some weakness we are not considering with the 2.2? VRAM, etc...

You will want to back rev QT however.  The OS archive and install method will work for that.  Given the time frame though, you may want to wait for MC 3 and Leopard support at this point.

Thanks for the quick response. Is going back to a previous version of QT absolutely necessary, or is it a recommendation as to avoid bugs?

Also, is mc 2.8 the same as academic?

And is it correct that mc 3 will be coming out in June, and will be supported by leopard? Just wanting to make sure I havent' been hearing rumors. Thank you very much for your time!

It's to avoid bugs... some of which could be bad, thus making it absolutley necessary.

    Yes

Yes... it is currently scheduled as such

Hey Todd, thanks for all the help.

If I waited for mc 3 and upgraded to leopard would QT 7.3 still be strongly advised? Or are the bugs supposedly to be fixed with  MC 3, thus my current version (7.4.5) would work "without problem"?

Secondly, if I stick with Tiger and purchase mc academic, and take the archive and install route (which is very foreign to me) is this relatively easy to do?

    Thanks for your time today.

    Mike,

QT 7.4.5 will be approved with MC 3... but not with MC 2.8.

Archive and install is simply done by using the installer disc that came with your laptop.  If you select the Archive and Install option, it simply reloads the OS and preserves your old system in a "Previous System" folder.  It does not wipe the HD and preserves your settings, etc...

Check out this link for more info on Archive and Install.

Hi Todd, thanks for patience and help.

One more question if I may-

Will MC 3 have an academic version, and if so will it stay at the $300 cost? I tried looking for this information to no avail.

    Much appreciated!

    miwos,

Media Composer Academic v3.0 will be available in June 2008 and the price for Academic is $295 US MSRP.

However anyone that buys MC Academic after March 17th gets 3.0 free.
