I work on Media Composer at work...
I just bought a version (media composer academic version) for home.... when I registered it I received the obligatory email from AVID... blah blah... BUT it said "Thank you for buying an AVID Xpress product"!!! Is the academic version of MEDIA COMPOSER an XPRESS product? I'm confused.
Anyway... when I go to update my dongle... I downloaded the dongle manager... but it says I need the dongle updater file... "that AVID sent me"... Avid hasn't sent me such a file and. for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to get it.
HELP
If you just purchased the software, why do you need to upgrade the dongle?
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

Great question.... but is updating the dongle the same as upgrading?

Attached DongleManager utility reads .AVD files to update a dongle. The new Dongle Manager scans and updates your application key (dongle). The Dongle Manager replaces the previous DongleUpdater and DongleDumper utilities. The Dongle Manager utility can be used for any dongle. Scanning displays the permissions currently on your dongle. This display tells you what software you are authorized to run and lists any additional options. Scanning also gives you the Avid System ID and Dongle Serial Number. You can also use the Dongle Manager to update the permissions on your dongle. Avid sends you a small dongle updater file via email that you use to run this Dongle Manager utility for a specific dongle or dongles. You need to download, install, and run the Dongle Manager. To use the Dongle Manager: 1. Plug your dongle into your editing system. 2. Download one of the following files: (Windows) WinDongleManager.zip (runs on any Windows system with Avid software installed) (Macintosh) MacDongleManager.zip (runs on PowerPC and Intel Macintosh systems that have the latest x.7 Avid editing application installed) 3. Unzip the file to the hard drive of your editing system. 4. Locate the dongle updater file that Avid emailed to you and save it to your system. This authorizes your dongle for specific upgrades. The updater file extension is .avd. <---- HOW DO I GET THIS FILE? I REGISTERED MY COPY OF MEDIA COMPOSER... BUT NEVER GOT THIS 5. Double-click DongleManager.exe.The Dongle Manager utility starts. 6. Click the Update tab. 7. Click the Open button, navigate to the dongle updater file, and then click Open. 8. Click the Upgrade button. Your dongle is updated. 9. Click the Scan tab to view the results of your dongle scan.

Yes it is. If you just purchased the software, you probably don't need to do anything to the dongle.
Here's a question:
I just purchased 3 Xpro to MC upgrades. Would it be possible for me to upgrade all three dongles on one machine, one after the other? Or would I have to do it on the three specific machines that are being upgraded?
Thanks
Andy
You can do them all on the same CPU Brick'.
Thanks 'DOG, thought so.
