Hi Editors:
I eagerly await the upcoming release of MC 3.0 with all of its cool improvements and features. I have been searching for compatibility information regarding the Avid Studio Toolkit, which we use daily and need (Avid DVD by Sonic, Avid 3D, Avid effects) for web and DVD output. I can't seem to nail down an absolute "yes," or "no," wether or not my Avid Studio Toolkit will continue to function. Can anyone on this forum please confirm wether or not Avid Studio Toolkit version 5.7 will work with MC 3.0 or not ?
The thing is don't peak too early in life. Currently at MC 3.0
Suggest you contact bob_russo@avid.com for the most reliable answer to your question.

Hi,
Avid DVD will work, because it comes with v3.0, but as for the rest of Avid XPress Studio, it will not. From the 3.0 FAQ in the General Discussion forum:
Q. I am an Avid Xpress Studio user. Can I use the new hardware and software?A. The new hardware and software is not supported with Avid Xpress Studio. AvidXpress Studio customers can upgrade the Avid Xpress Pro component of their Studiosolution to Media Composer, but must stay on version 2.8 of Avid Media Composer.
Sorry I don't have better news for you.
good luck,Carl

....Uhhh no. I don't have Avid Xpress Studio. I have MC with the Avid Studio Toolkit ver 5.7. I understood the Avid Studio Toolkit was a different product ? Good news about the Avid DVD though
Since AvidFX is Boris Red, it "should" just work. as stated above, it will likely NOT output via the DX hardware to the client monitor.
Happy Editing!
According to another thread by Marianna, Toolkit should be supported:
"The new hardware and software coming in June 2008 is not supported with Avid Xpress Studio. Avid Xpress Studio customers can upgrade the Avid Xpress Pro component of their Studio solution to Media Composer, but must stay on version 2.8 of Avid Media Composer. Toolkit will be supported." (emphasis added)
I hope this is right, as I have Studio Toolkit and would like to upgrade eventually to 3.0 when it comes out.
Hope this helps!
