Is Boris CC linked to dongle?

I ask as I cant get the Boris Continum Complete I got with my 'standing by' MC 2.8 upgrade to work in Xpress Pro 5.6.6.  It says 'unable to verify authorisation' when I boot Avid.

I have fired the new mayor Boris a mail about this Hyrcanian problem about 14 hours ago, but...

I'll be upgrading to MC once this job is done, but I've been naughty enough changing to a new PC halfway through, let alone risking updatimg dongles etc!  Would really like one effect it has though...

Original DIY PC: Shuttle SN85, AMD 3200, 1Gig Ram, Quadro 980, on board sound, on board firewire, 2 x SATA + My Book ext HDD - could that be less 'compatible? Never hiccuped once! :-)

It is not tied to a dongle but you do have to have a registered serial number installed  to use the plugs.

Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

Still aint working & still no response from Boris (the rogue)...  I have a serial number on the disk sleeve - it was supplied to me by an Avid reseller - 100% kosher!  What am I doing wrong - I've even installed virus bloockers so I could register it on the net etc...  Where am I going wrong?

I've downloaded Sapphire trial meantime and like them far more than unhelpful Boris the Buggr!

    Thx

Re: Is Boris CC linked to dongle?

    Hi,

I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling BCC.  If you've already tried that, and you know you entered the serial number correctly, then I think waiting until Monday to contact Boris is about your only option.  Sorry I don't have better ideas.

    good luck,
    Carl

Re: Is Boris CC linked to dongle?

Old Boris got back to me, eventually...  So in case it helps save someone else a few days here is what they said:

What you'll want to do is the following.  Note one thing, however - If you ever installed BCC AVX as trial programs before receiving the CD, do not carry out the following steps at this time, and contact me ASAP.

First, with the Avid closed, Uninstall BCC AVX.

Then, go into the Start menu, select 'Run', type 'regedt32' and hit Enter - you should now be in the Registry Editor.  Inside there, expand the 'My Computer', and inside there expand the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' folder, and after that expand the folder inside there called SOFTWARE.  There should be a folder in there for Boris FX, Inc. - expand that, and you should see folders for all the BorisFX software you've installed.  Expand the folder for 'Boris Continuum Complete AVX 5.0' - inside there should be a folder called 'COpt'; delete the COpt folder.  It might give you an error message telling you that you can't delete some of the files inside the folder, but the untouchable files shouldn't be related to the problem you're experiencing.

After that, close the Registry Editor, feel free to Restart (although it's not necessary), and re-install.  Usually this problem comes from an Xpress Pro license being used in a higher end Avid, but your serial is good for the Avid you're using, so this should clear up the problem.

    Thanks and sorry again,
