Every time I launch Avid, I get two of these messages saying An ACCESS_VIOLATION exception occurred. For more information see the error log: c:\...\Avid FatalErrorReports. Avid runs fine, but I'm concerned about something potentially failing on me. Is there anything I can do?
Check the console window for specific error details and come back and post what you find here.

You've provided zero information about your system. Are you running Windows XP Pro? Is "Simple File Sharing" disabled?
"Saving the world, one Avid at a time"
Also, since you're a new member, please go to your user profile and list your system specifications, so we know what you're running. You'll find it under "profile options". Please see this post for details.
I posted what I could for my system specs, but the text field won't let me enter anymore information.
Also, I'm brand new to Avid. I checked the Console for some sort of errors but I really don't know what I'm looking for...
Windows XP Home could be the problem. Avid requires Pro for full security access.
That is correct. You need to be running Windows XP Pro, service pack 2, 32 bit.
Thank you for the help. I'll see what I can do.
Like the thread starter, I get the same two "Access Violation" erros, resulting in an "Avid System Dump" according to the error log. Unfortunately, my newly purchased Media Composer won't run - shuts down any time I try to play anything (I'll post separately on the errors from that).
I'm having trouble as well. I completely uninstalled my 2.8.3 installation. Then I cleaned the registry entries as instructed. Then I installed the correct version of QT (7.4.5) and the correct nVidia drivers. After all that, I installed the 3.0 package and ran it. The first thing that happened is that I had to update the FPGAs on my Adrenaline box. Then I power cycled the Adrenaline and ran the software again. All worked perfectly. It came up. I loaded the project that I've been working on. Messed around a bit. All good to go.
However, after a while I got some kind of an access violation error as well and the editor shut down unexpectedly. Having seen these types of things before, I did the standard Windows XP "owner" and "permissions" fixes on my boot drive. However, once I did that, the software refuses to load at all. It quits with the following error:
I tried a complete re-install, but same problem. Boy, I knew better than to try and do this while in the middle of a project, but my enthusiasm got the better of me.
Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Chris
Did you have any luck figuring out what's causing this error? I tried to uninstall v3 and re-install 2.8.3, but then I couldn't get that version to work either. Ultimately I had to reinstall Windows to fix the whole d#mn mess. Aargh.
Take it from me, give yourself plenty of time to get this working if you plan on trying an upgrade. Don't be a fool like I was and think you can do it in an hour between jobs.
You need to click My Computer, Manage, Disk Management, Click Drive, Set Permissions, set the permissions to access and change the files (sorry I stopped step by step 'cause I don't remember them, but its there -). Once you do that you don't get the Access Violation errors.
Thanks to all who've tried to help with this "ACCESS_VIOLATION" error.
Tried all recommended options from this thread, to no avail. Any other ideas?
I've reinstalled Avid as well.
Once the error occurs (again, twice as the program loads), I get to Media Composer. The bigger issue is that it shuts down whenever I try anything, with the following ASSERT Failed message:
Executable: AvidMediaComposer.exe Pid 8a4 Tid 910. Module DVBuffers.ax, 3 objects left active!At line 319 of S:\external\DX8SDK\BaseClasses\dllentry.cppContinue? (Cancel to debug)
From the point of that error, no matter what I say (Yes, No, Cancel), Media Composer is shut down. I don't get the whole "S:\" thing - it's not a drive I have, so what does that mean?
Whatever advice anyone can offer would be most appreciated.
