I have lost acces to all the material i have in a harddrive, when i open the mediafiles folder i cannot find the database files, (the ones with a pink circle, msmMMOB.pmr  and msmFMID.pmr)

Is there a way i can regenerate these files?

Before this happened the sequene frezzed  and i got these errors:

exception File-other filenameF\OMFI media filer\zumbido MOAOI.47F7047F02CI.wav

exception Sys error status 23, insg dataerror cyclic redundancy check.

After that i tried to "fix" the problem by sending one of the zumbido files into the harddrive

and that when i lost contact with the hardrive.

Hi,

They should automatically generate when you start Xpress DV with the drive connected.  If they don't, you can try Refresh Media Databases under the File menu (I'm not in front of a machine at the moment, so that might not be the exact name of the command, and it might be under a different menu, but it ought to get you close).

 Although i was able to regenerate  the mediadatabases by renaming the OMFI Media File folder( automaticaly created another OMFI Media Files folder and then record some material from  my  camera to avid) I was not able to gain acces to all the gigas of information inside the harddrive, they are still there,  but unreachable, i will appreciate any help .

Unless i am completely mistaken you will need to move all the files from the renamed OMFI MediaFiles folder into the newly created  OMFI MediaFiles folder that Avid is seeing and making databases in.

 When you say they are "unreachable" what do you mean? Do you mean you can't get the drive to mount and be recognized by the system at all, or do you mean you are being denied access to the drive? You say you know the media is there on that drive, so I'm a bit confused.

In any event, if and when you do gain access to that drive (and I hope you don't mean the system :c drive), I would suggest you first connect a drive you can trust and move your current OMFI MediaFIles folder to it. Then add any additional OMFI files you have on the suspect drive to that folder. Now, sort the contents of the folder by date, bringing the most recent to the top and look for the two database files, they identify by type in a detailed view as "MSM Media Database". If these files are present, delete them at this point. On re-launch of the program, the system should detect the missing files and build new ones at the "Initializing Media Streams Manager" stage. You should see it go into a scanning and indexing mode.

When you open your project, you should have all your media online. If during the database rebuild the system flags specific files, you may have some corruption issues. My advice would be to choose "ignore all" the first time around and see if everything comes back anyway. If you wind up with sporadic media offline issues, quit and re-launch and this time choose "quarantine".

 Also, two very basic Media Management rules:

1. NEVER rename the OMFI folder. The default name (without the quotes) is "OMFI MediaFiles".

2. The OMFI MediaFiles folder must reside at the root level of the media drive.

 Thanks for your help, i do have acces to the F drive, i can open it and watch diferent files aswell

as the OMFI MediaFiles folder,i already deleted the databases files and relaunch as you sugested

but even so all the sequences appear offline, but if  i check the space used in the harddrive i know

all my material still there.

An expert in avid told me to change the name of the original OMFI MediaFile folder because

in this folder for some reason the databases files had dissapeard and i couldn´t try to do exactly

what was suggested in one of the posts, once i had rename the original OMFI MediaFiles folder

1) Is there a way to delet this "XOMFI MediaFiles" folder

2) Can someone explain to me how to relaunch using that "quarantine" tool? ,

never hear from that before.

Ok, let's check procedure here.

Once your new OMFI MediaFiles folder was auto-created after the capture you describe, you should have moved all the OMFI media in the "X" folder into the new folder and then deleted the "X" folder and the database files for a rebuild. All of your eggs in one basket for the system to account for, so to speak. Did you do that?

The fact is that for some reason both the database files and the OMFI mediafiles dissapeard

from inside the original OMFI MediaFiles Folder, the only way i can create new OMFI mediafiles

and   new database files is to record from my camera to the computer, but obiously this is not the

material am trying to recover, as i said before, the space used inside the harddrive indicates

that my work has not been erased, as for the original OMFI MediaFilers folder that was renamed

"XMedia Files Folder" is empty but i have not been able to erase it, always appears this message:

"folder cannot be deleted, directory is not empty".

The new OMFI MediaFiles folder was used to record new material from my camera to create

new OMFI Media Files  along with new databases files, then i deleted these new databases files

in the hope that when the system recreates other databases files then the material that appear

offline could be detected, but so far no luck.

As for putting all my eggs in  one basket .... well not all of my eggs, but certainly a lot of them.

And if that does not work maybe if am able to delete the original OMFI MediaFile folder that was

renamed "XOMFI Media Files" folder, the problem is that i have not been able to do it.

After that all i need is a miracle.

As an observation , when i open a bin and try to delete one of the master clips the litlle

window appears and ask me if i want to delete the master clip, but nothing about the media files

linked to the master clip and that are there for sure, it is as if for AVID the media files do not

exists any more, totaly undetectable

Sounds like your FAT Table may be corrupt.  Try this ... Start > Run > CMD [enter} ... this will open a DOS Shell.  In there, type ... CHKDSK x:/F ... where x = the drive letter.  This will initiate Check Disk w/Fix.

You may get a message that it won't run until the next boot.  If so, reboot.  Either way, when it is done, you may have repaired the FAT Table, and you may now see you folders & files.
