Hi,
I've got about 20min of footage shot at 720p/50 on a P2 camera which I need to edit in a 1080i/50 project. I can't use it directly because Avid warns of a miss match in frame rates, but when I try and trancode it in the 1080i/50 project to either DVCPRO HD, DNx or DV the files always end up with an incorrect aspect ratio. Everything looks tall and thin in a 16:9 window and some of the image has been cropped. Has anyone had any success in doing this, or do I need to export a load of Quicktimes and use a different program to transcode?
Thanks for any advice
Chris
I believe, if you go the Quicktime route, you just export from one project into another. Since the frame rates are the same, you won't have sync or playback issues.
BTW, this will not be an issue in v3.0, which allows you to mix 720p & 1080i in the same timeline as long as the frame rates match. This will be a perfect solution for you in the future.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for that, good to know it's supposed to be fixed in future software, I will keep my eye out for it. As suggested, I have exported QTs as 1080i/50 / DV100 / 709 and then reimported them as DVCPRO (allowing fast import). It seems to work well, but I have only done a short test so far.
Cheers
Ah, almost worked well! Can't export 4 discrete channels of audio, and if I do 2 at a time and then join them together the Avid won't let me reimport it! Oh well, I think we can get by by breaking the audio apart into 2 stereo pairs.
