I keep getting a message 'Please wait while Windows configures Avid Express Pro' when my laptop is connected to a DV recorder with firewire. How do I stop this ?

I would say disconnect the device.  Shut down computer.  Boot computer, log on to desktop.

Plug in firewire device and then launch Xpress.
