Dear All,
I am currently assisting on an animation feature and we are encountering problems with our Avid Adrenaline 2.8, running on HP xw8400, Unity V5.1. Being an animation feature we deal with many sketches, therefore having lots of very small master clips, consequently having a great deal of cuts within a sequence.
Our problems (I have been told) boils down to the fact that our media net drivers / unity can't move lots of small files all at once - meaning that when our systems auto-save we get; avid exception error has occurred, access violation exception, avid not responding or simply straight out to the desktop.
I have been told this happens because when we are trying to save / auto-saving the bin's we are in essence changing a lot of pointer files to the many master clips and then saving them so therefore we disconnect from the unity temporarily, which is when the error's occur.
My questions are these;-
I am currently in talks with avid escalation and they can't seem to tell me when they will be able to write and finish testing the software code which sorts this issue out. Has anyone delt with them before?.. and do you know how long the minimum testing period is? (which would at least tell me how long I know I will have to wait).
Has anyone encountered any similar problems?...
Or can anyone suggest a temporary fix? (aside from not opening too many bins at once, or making our bins / projects smaller).
(the problem can be replicated by making a very large amount of small files (for example a SFX library bin database, not the media) and trying to move them all at once from your project drive to the desktop).
Thanks for your time!
Andrew.
Welcome to the forums!
I'm afraid I'm not understanding your workflow.
Why are you moving media files from your Unity to your desktop?
-- Kevin
Hello there!, thank you for the response.
I'm not actually moving any media from the unity to the desktop. Sorry for being unclear. The error's occur when the project is auto saving.
What I was saying was that the problem can be replicated when moving the project or any large number of small files (not the media) eg. a sfx library from a unity drive to the desktop. That in essence, is not the problem (as we only need to move a large number of files from the project drive to the desktop when backing up), but it is where the problem lie's, in that the avid is having trouble moving large numbers of files, folders and pointer files when saving.
Does that make sense?...
Cheers, A.
