jef:But Larry, the camcorder's output signal IS a video signal.
That's true Jef, but let me clarify what I meant. You can't use just any video signal as a sync reference, particularly if it's constantly changing content with possible signal interrupts or other instabilities that would drive the Avid absolutely nuts. Believe it or not, I've known people who have tried to use the tuner output of a VHS machine as a gen lock ref! SO, if you cap the camera, you are essentially feeding the system a stable black burst signal, so long as it remains powered. I'd still always recommend a stand alone black burst generator for a single self-contained platform, like the one in the link I provided. They're as cheap as $250.00.

And like my late Uncle Jules from Jersey used to say:
"Don't go gettin' yer bowels in an uproarh!"
Ah, I miss him.
I tried hooking up a reference signal to the mojo, and I got the "ref" light to come on.
I reinstalled Media composer and after installation I had the same problem I was having before. It actually froze right when I got into the program.
I'm in the same situation. I have a Horita BSG-50 feeding both my Mojo and Beta SP deck and it doesn't make a difference. I've tried setting the sync in Avid to both internal and reference and it still freezes. I'm going to have my Mojo tested.
Let us know what you come up with. It seems odd that we're having the same problem, hopefully we can come up with something.
OK, I found you guys. I am having the same problem with the upgrade from Express Pro to MC. I thought I was in an exclusive club of 1.
After many frustrating hours and days of troubleshooting I have determined the following with my machine,
HP8200 Built out by local Avid reseller so I would ass-u-me it is all qualified. OS is XP Professional.
After upgrade from Express Pro 5.7 to MC 2.8.1:
If Mojo (Analog) is not connected the system runs fine. No lock up problems, just butterflies, sparkles and Avid perfection.
If Mojo (Analog) is connected...different story. Sometimes Avid application will lock up on launch, and I mean lock up. You have to power down computer and start over. However, most of the time the app will launch and usually what causes the lockup is changing the resolution on the timeline..green/green-yellow/yellow. Sometimes I only have to click it once for a total lockup, other times it would take multiple changing of the resolution to get it to lock up. Now since I usually operate in "green" so you might think that this would not be much of a problem. Sometimes a lockup will occur after a clip capture, it's totally unpredictable, maybe just one capture, perhaps several before the grand lockup. And of course the random lockup for no apparent reason can also occur.
What I've done: A lot of what I've read from you guys is exactly what I've tried to no avail. I've changed cables, switched out firewire ports, tried USB for the media drive etc. Have uninstalled and re-installed MC a couple of times. I've tried another Mojo, same problem. Doesn't matter what brand of media drive I have attached...nothing is making the problem go away.
In my case I do not have any sync going into machine. This is an isolated system with a Sony DV deck via firewire. But sync shouldn't matter, again as an Express Pro system this ran just fine until the upgrade.
Suggestions from a local Avid certified guy now involves wiping the system drive and "first birthday" the computer. If that doesn't work, we're suppose to replace with new computer. Oh boy. And again, without the Mojo hooked up I can function and use the DV deck to pass through a signal to the monitor. Currently I have been eliminating software from system with possible conflicts, although I'm highly doubtful that this will achieve any positive results.
Anyway. If anyone wants to try to resolve this, I will more than happy to help. I think we have a bug here that is rare and associated with a particular piece of hardware or software.

I've given up for now. I haven't needed the Mojo but it drives me nuts that I have it sitting here and I can't use it. I"ll get back on it over the next few days. During my previous test I did wipe my computer completely clean and it still didn't make a difference. Lately I've been thinking it's a conflict between my particular Mojo and MC 2.8.1. When you connected an alternate Mojo was it new?

The other Mojo was an Avid rebuild I believe, don't think it was new but I'll check on that.
I've given up as well. My busy season has arrived and I can't afford so many crashes. I just reverted back to Express Pro and i'll use that until I can save up enough money to buy a new computer.
Over the weekend I tried more attempts at solving this problem we're having. I've been through everything. I even pulled every possible card out of the computer and ran bare-bones but still received the random freezes with the Mojo connected. I'm running MC 2.8.4, is anyone running the new 3.0? I'm thinking about upgrading but don't want to spend the money only to continue with the same problem.
