    CAPTURE TOOL problems

     Couple of problems:

    1)  The capture tool is having an extremely hard time finding pre-roll points (I tried this on several tapes) and says it FAILED.  (which is odd, because I'ver captured this footage before)

    2) when I hit "play" on the capture tool to get my deck to play the tape, my entire computer locks up so that I have to restart.  (I can't even hit "control/alt/delete")  This has also happened when I hit "play" on my deck while in capture mode.

I have recently installed a new hard drive and re-installed Avid (from Xpress Pro to Media composer)

    Anyone have any solutions?

    Thanks!

you might try to trash all your settings files and mcstate, start avid and try again.

    Re: CAPTURE TOOL problems

     OK.

In the Settings folder, I deleted MC State, Site Settings, and Site Attributes.

I relaunched Avid.  Went into Deck Configuration and added Channel, added deck.

But when I try to auto-configure it's saying "Auto-configure will not be successful because "" is currently not selected  Please select "" before auto-configuring this channel.

    What is ""?

As of now, Avid isn't seeing the deck.

    Please le me know.

    Thanks!

I also started a new project and a new user.  Still no success.

    Any ideas?

    Re: CAPTURE TOOL problems

I don't know exactly what you do but it seems to me that you didn't select the hannel before trying to autoconfigure. What I don't understand is why you want to autoconfigure as you already added a channel and a deck as you described.

Actually I am not to fond of autoconfigure. Most of the time it defaults to a generic device. So I would advice to make a channel and add a deck to the channel by hand

    Re: CAPTURE TOOL problems

     I finally got it working.

I just powered everything down and unhooked everything, and then fired it back up.

For no particular reason, it started working.

    Hilarious.

    Thanks everyone for your help!!!!!

welcome to the improbability machine of Avid

the uncertainty principal applied in an application- how do they even do it?

hope it's as much fun for you as it's been for me

I really don't know if I can ever endure another update field trip though- so I'm just living in terror of the anticipated Media Composer install now... do I need this?
