I thought I saw an official product matrix from Avid that flatly stated 8000s won't run 3.0. Perhaps some kind of benchmark should be added, illustrating how much more slowly older systems will run 3.0. I have a post manager who is prepared to ditch two MCA rigs for FCP over this.

It's not going to be supported but I don't know of anything that will keep it from working.

So, officially, the codec is not supported in the x.8.3 release but it is in there. It will also be in 3.0.
