Please can someone help -
my grandfather passed away recently and I'm just trying to burn a dvd for my grandma of all the family videos. Sadly as interested as I am in editing - my knowledge of Avid is not that great...
I know that I need to export to .vob file
I've got nero on my pc
I've tried downloading progs from the net - but just can't work out how to do this properly. I've noticed people on here have left forum msgs stating it can be done with a philips dvd player/recorder - I have a panonsonic.
I'm really stuck - anyone you can help asap would be great
Thanks for looking..
One way to do this is export a quicktime reference and open that file in Sorenson Squeeze to create the MPEG2 video. Then use nero to author the DVD. Hope this helps
If you export a Quicktime, you will need some sort of MPEG-2 encoding software, which is something that the Avid does not do. Then you can author and burn your DVD using Nero.
Or, you can hit play and feed a DVD-R settop burner (like the Panasonic you mention) and burn directly to disk in realtime.
Thank you - do you know of any free mpeg2 encoding software?
does it have to be mpeg 2 as opposed to 3 or 4 ??
sorry - I have no clue on this at all..
Darren
It must be MPEG2, as that is what's used on DVDs. You should have received a copy of Sorenson Squeeze with your Avid as mentioned above, check through the install disks if not already on your system. Easiest would be to run it straight out of your Avid to DVD-recorder, connect composite video and analogue audio Outs to DVD recorder ins, or firewire out of Avid into a DV camera, and then composite video and analogue audio out of camera into recorder.
If you have an academic version and don't have Squeeze you could try TMPGenc. It's a free download, but it has a steep learning curve. It is a very good encoder though.
Alternatively, Ulead DVD MovieFactory is comparitively cheap and gives professional results. It combines both authoring and MPEG encoding in the one package, along with a large collection of prebuilt menus and other art. It will also burn your DVD too.
Here is a free converter tool from super converter. Converts just about anything to anything.

Hey Darren:
I just PM'd you. Let us know if you can send us a QT movie of your timeline and we will author it to a DVD . ISO image file which you could simply burn to DVD on your end.

The thing is don't peak too early in life. Currently at MC 3.0
I haven't tried it myself, but the fine print says that the "free" version will stick some kind of text on your output file. Interesting nonetheless.
wow thanks - i'll give it a try
