    audio video stutter on capture

    Hello,

I'm trying to capture with MC, but I'm getting an audio / video stutter. However, the video on my video monitor which is hooked straight to the deck plays fine. I'm using an iMac G5 (non-intel) with MC 2.7.2, OS 10.4.9 and QT 7.1.6 the deck is a JVC SR VS3OU connected via FW. It happens on all tapes, however,  I can still capture, but the playback after capture has the same stutter. I've already rebooted and repaired permissions.

Can you try capturing to your internal to see if the same thing happens?

I am capturing to the internal drive. Actually, the drive is partitioned with a system partition and a media partition. So, the problem is happening when I try to capture to the media partition.

    Thanks for the reply!

Ok, well, you might want to try capturing to another drive then to rule out a slow internal  HD. It's generally not good practice to run the App and the media from the same drive for very long.

Okay, the same problem is persisting with the external FW drive.

Are you seeing any colored dashes in the Timeline when you try to play?

No colored dashes. Basically, the video stutters and the audio levels pulse/stutter. There is also some artifacting in the record window that is not on the tape.  I have also just uninstalled and reinstalled Avid and the same problem still persists.

    Thanks again.

Ok, what CPU do you have, and what is the external storage? So you have ANYTHING else connected to this CPU (Maybe a webcam?)?

So here is the specs from the system profiler:

    Machine Name: iMac G5

    Machine Model: PowerMac8,2

    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.1)

    Number of CPUs: 1

    CPU Speed: 2 GHz

L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB

    Memory: 2 GB

    Bus Speed: 667 MHz

And no, there isn't anything else hooked up to the machine. The only thing on the FW bus is the JVC deck. The external I was using (when not using the internal) was a 250 GB, 7200  Lacie D2. However, I have taken that out of line.

Re: audio video stutter on capture

Could this issue not be with "output to dv device" being selected?  There is a known issue with this (using a dv deck for monitoring) I believe, playback stutters in the src/rec monitors but not in the client monitor.

The problem doesn't occur with a mojo.  Solution if this is what it is: deactivate Output to DV device.

    Hey Janusz,

Unfortunately that didn't fix the problem either, thanks though.

I think it may be time for a rebuild...
