look for a way to create just a white video background for my graphics in Avid, can be black and I just change the color to white, either way works for me. I need it in the middle of the clip so add filler at start wouldn't work for me.
would it be easier to just do this in Marquee?
If you need black in the middle of a sequence, you can still add filler. The Add filler to Start of course only adds it to the start of the sequence, but it doesn't prevent you from loading filler and adding it wherever you need.
You can also just launch the Title Tool and create a fill matte of whatever color you want.

Open the basic title tool (Marquee is overkill for this).
Use the box shape and draw a box that fills the entire frame.
Make the box whatever color you want; white, black, magenta...
Exit the title tool and insert the title into the timeline.
To reduce any unecessary rendering put the playhead over the effect and remove the effect. This will leave only the fill layer behind, which is all you need.
where is the option to add filler in the middle or where ever?
also is it possible to change the color of the letter box mask?
I'm having to rebuild the schools commercial with an updated logo, and it was done in premiere so I'm a little lost on recreating the title lol. Thanks for the help.
flashpoint08:where is the option to add filler in the middle or where ever?
Load Filler, and treat it like any other source clip.

Create your own mask in the Title tool whatever color you want.
thanks for all the help guys
Drop in a piece of video on V1 for the length you need. Add a color effect and then desaturated and adjust brightness and contrast as needed for either white or black. This is an old school trick for when you only had one real time channel for titles. Doing it this way it was still video so you didn't burn that channel.

So you're suggesting to cut in a piece of video, add an effect (which will need rendering if exporting a file) vs. just loading Filler to the Source and cutting it in or using a White Matte? (which require no rendering)
Just offering up a different way to do it. If you're going to a file the point is moot as everything will need to be rendered anyways. I certainly didn't mean it to come off like I was questioning anyones methods. I've been around Avids long enough to know there's a million ways to Sunday with everything you do.
