    Upgrade to MC2.8 or 3.0?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I only just discovered that Xpress Pro is being discontinued and couldn't find anything relevant in the last twenty or so pages of threads here (plus the upgrade link from the sticky thread isn't working).

Given that 3.0 is supposed to be out shortly and people upgrading to 2.8 now are supposed to get a free upgrade to 3.0, and given there's a two-week backlog on 2.8 upgrades anyway, is there actually any benefit to upgrading to 2.8 now rather than waiting a few weeks and upgrading to 3.0, other than getting the software slightly sooner? I don't have any desperate need to upgrade, but obviously I don't want to have to pay more to upgrade to 3.0 directly than to upgrade to 2.8 and then to 3.0.

You won't pay any more. It's the same price if you upgrade to MC now or later. There is a big FAQ at the top of the general forums that should answer most of  your questions.

The main upgrade thread points to:

    http://community.avid.com/promos/xpromoveup/index.asp?cmpid=newthinkingpr_upgrade

Which says 'The page cannot be found'.

Re: Upgrade to MC2.8 or 3.0?

Sorry, it was this thread at the top of this forum:

    http://community.avid.com/forums/t/56400.aspx

I hadn't actually realised there was a 'General Forum' here as it's all changed since the last time I was here much :). Right now though, the information about the upgrade appears to be spread across about a dozen threads and web pages, which isn't ideal!

Re: Upgrade to MC2.8 or 3.0?

It's actually all collected in FAQs at the top of each forum. Sure there's a lot of discussions about the info but  that 's a good  thing.

Re: Upgrade to MC2.8 or 3.0?

What about the third party software included, will that be any different in 3 than in 2.8?

Or is that information not available until release?

    Thanks.

Re: Upgrade to MC2.8 or 3.0?

When I read the sticky post in the right way the third party plugins will keep the same as it was in ver. 2.8. But I got one question regarding the boris plugins: if in the new package is still BCC 4.xx can we benefit from the free upgrade to BCC5 (http://artel-software.stores.yahoo.net/borisfx70cdesd.html ) or is this offer only valid for copies bought separately ?

     Bad news.....

here is a mail from Boris.....

    Hi ,
The offer for the free BCC 5 upgrade does not apply to people that purchased the Avid Bundle.
This offer is specifically for customers that purchased the BCC AVX plug-ins at retail price.
You can upgrade at the standard upgrade price of $599.00. These upgrades can be purchased here: http://artel-software.stores.yahoo.net/concomavxbcc.html

Re: Upgrade to MC2.8 or 3.0?

Again the same kind of message from Boris :

Greetings. Unfortunately, free BCC AVX 5 upgrades were for customers who purchased BCC AVX 4 from Boris direct or from a Value Added Reseller. No free upgrades are given to customers who received BCC AVX 4.2 via an Avid Adrenaline bundle. You will need to purchase an upgrade to BCC AVX 5. Let us know if you have any further questions.
