I have captured uncompressed 10bit footage via SDI from my SDX900 to the Adrenaline. Its over 1TB of data. I would now like to edit this footage, but I have no space on my Avid Media Drives. I would like to trancode the media to DV, for offline, and then relink to the 1.11bit media, is this possible?

That's quite a big job. What's the actual duration of the master clip ?
I hate television. I hate it as much as I hate peanuts. But I can't stop eating peanuts.

Hi Crow,
What I have in fact is not just a single long media clip, but approx. 250 master clips, ranging from 5sec to several minutes. All captured by the adrenaline in SD, 1.1 10bit MFX.
Can I like duplicate this TB sized MXF media files folder to another disc, transcode it to DV25, and edit in Off-line, and when I am done, go back with my sequence to the On line folder, and get the original files auto re-linked? Or does the transcoding process change the file names on the transcoded media?

Sorry about the delay Filmmaker. If you transcode to another ( target ) drive and make new sequences etc all your new dv25 material will all link to those on the new drive.
Transcoding that much will take some time so do it in chunks and save at the end of every chunk.
This is a general question relating to this post, but for SD footage, does 10bit really buy you anything in the way of quality? And if not, doesn't it increase your file sizes?

Yes, completely possible. Transcode your clips to DV (or whatever resolution you want to use), then take them away and do your editing on a smaller system/drive.
When you're done, bring the edited sequence back to your machine that still has the full-resolution media, then relink the sequence to the high-res media. You can use the relink dialog to force Avid to only relink to higher-resolution media, and unlink anything lower-res.

Thanks a lot everybody, I have followed your instructions and it works great, transcoding to DV to the offline machine and edit, then bring back the sequence to the online machine and relink. Avid seems to find the clips without problems. Only problem with this workflow is that it takes some time to transcode.
The reason I need to work in 1:1 10bit SD, is that 50% of the footage is shot against green screen. Also I think I get more options when it comes to color grading.
On question about the Avid 1:1 10bit MXF option. Is it really full uncompressed 10bit SDI signal, or does it compress somewhat in Avids own resolution? The reason I am wondering is that the file sizes seem to be slightly less than when I worked on another project and captured on a Blackmagic card?
