Randy et al....
Hows this ???
This is a great start. As others have chimed in, more geeky info is needed. But, kudos so far!
"Saving the world, one Avid at a time"
I think you people who are getting over excited must be easily pleased.
Quite unbelievable actually.
You couldn't make it up...
VG...you've made your position clear. Since you are no longer interested in Avid, Why keep posting?
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

Thanks Dom, I guess I'm asking a question that only beta testers can answer.
BLKDOG, when you export STL files do you get:
ex: 0000000 text written000000000
Do you get TC's instead of a bunch of zeros?
I own a captioning house and I don't want to buy another Caption software.
Why? because at times I need to cut different running times of the same movie.
Meaning re syncing, I 'd like to avoid this by using MC v3 subtiltes.
Export STL file
Convert STL file using Caption maker to SCC file (close caption)
And of course cutting different versions MC would me easy.
thanks
Mike
Marianna any way of posting photos of the DX boxes? (close up of back panel)
Can Avid continue selling the adrenaline HD box at 12k?
BLKDOG: VG...you've made your position clear. Since you are no longer interested in Avid, Why keep posting?
Does it cause you a problem?
It does, yes and if you can't start actually contributing to a discussion instead of your constant baiting, I will remove you from the boards. I don't care if you have an opposing view but please knock off the flame baiting, immediately.
After that interruption back on topic - Marketing.
Does anyone else think the new storage should be featured more predominately?
This was released earlier this week (Monday) and appears to be flying under the radar.

Am I that much or a geek that a new storage solution gets my attention?
It looks cool to me - you lose a drive and you don't lose everything on the entire array. Sweet.
If this new product is good as they say it is then it should be featured strongly on the home page - somehow a link under "news and events" seems inadequate to announce a cool new piece of hardware. Don't make the users hunt for the golden nuggets. Put it smack in their face where they can't miss it.

I have a 13 year old daughter who sometimes thinks it's funny to be annoying. VGUK2? Wait a minute . . Vicki, is this you?

Your reply only makes it more clear that you are nothing more than a troll.
I like how you post anonymously, make ill informed comments and judgements and yet have the cajones to judge others. And you are calling the forum members s"unbeliveable"?

What are the prices for VideoRAID ST and VideoRAID SR? This is only great news if the prices are competitive.
"... you lose a drive and you don't lose everything on the entire array. Sweet."
Um ... this is nothing new ... just new to Avid. We were promised this feature in 1999-2000 when we bought our 1st Unity ... and we're still waiting. Unity only offers Mirroring at a 50% drive-space cost. That's why we bought 120TB's of TerraBlock.
Meanwhile, it's nice to see the new storage.
VideoRAID was originally a Medea product until Avid bought them out. The current VideoRAID (non ST/SR) is a 10 drive enclosure - actually it is (2) 5-drive enclosure. Each set of 5 is controlled by its own RAID card (RAID 5). So each box can lose up to 2 drives (assuming they are from each set). I have 2 boxes (20 drives total) striped in OS X and get about 420 MB/s of transfer (UL5D ina MacPro).
Mirroring has its own advantage (you can lose more than one drive and has the least performance penalty).
I also like Terrablock. For what it cost and perform, it is admirable. It does not quite have the bells and whistles of Unity (file vs volume sharing) and the admin tools needs to be tweaked. Overall I am very happy with it. I have not tried the ethernet option so I can't comment on that.
BLKDOG: Yeah, Marianna and I were talking about it and I got tied up with clients (stupid money-givers). So, we still haven't heard where this doc falls short. I know you guys can find something.

BLKDOG, you asked for it.
First, I should say the doc is definitely a good step in the right direction.
My main areas of focus are in the product matrix. The areas I would first take a stab at would be:
I agree that mirroring is probably the best solution, but nobody wants to pay for it. As a facility, we can't afford to "give away" 1/2 the storage, and clients won't pay for it either. Even after a catastrophic data loss. Go figure.
When we were evaluating new storage, we needed a solution that provided:
• RAID 5 protection• Multiple streams of 4:4:4 (up to 11)• Multiple streams of 4:2:2 (currently at 6)• A simple expansion capability
We now have 8 x TerraBlock servers and a QLogic 9000 Switch w/64 ports which is expandable to 128, and can be daisy-chained to 2 x 128 (256). Also, the Telecine gear attached is far more demanding than a DS Nitris or FCP system. These include Clipster, Pronto, Nucoda, and DRS.
All volumes are spanned across 4 servers, and are RAID 5 protected. Spanning across 4 servers also automatically load-balances the system. The 4-way span also reduces the hit during a RAID 5 rebuild.
And, yes, the front end isn't as elegant as Unity, and the "current" volume sharing isn't ideal. However, improvements are on the way.
We would have easily bought an Avid solution had it been available, with similar performance specs, and competitively priced.
... meanwhile, back to the original topic.
Thanks Steel but guess the main focus of what I was asking was not so much how to make a better marketing doc as it was what information is lacking for you.

Thanks for the clarification. I'd say some of the same responses apply. Many of the features lack a good description. For example, what does "Export to Web or Mobile" mean? Does it mean I can export a QT Ref, throw it into Squeeze and I get a Web or Mobile file? Does it mean that Avid has a direct output to a one of those formats? Does Avid have a preset for those formats? All of the above? Is this a new feature, or is it a description of the featureset I've seen before?
