    "No such file or directory"...???

I've been running into a recurring problem with creating files that is keeping me from digitizing...and cannot solve it.

The latest issue occurred when i ran out of space on a workspace during digitizing.  I increased the size of the Unity workspace, but now every time i try to capture i get the following error:

"Exception: No such file of directory, filname:creating40"

I tried deleting the media database and also the creating folder itself, but no such luck.  Tried rebooting...nothing.

    Can anyone help?

I'm on an Intel dual 3ghz, MC 2.8.3, Lanshare 4.1.5

Is this just one client? If so, I suggest renaming the client folder on that workspace, creating a new one and moving just the media into there (all with MC not running).

not exactly sure what you mean by just one client....but there are multiple avids connected to the unity...so in the omfi folder, there are sub-folders for each avid.

so, i'm not sure i can move things around.

    can i?  let me know.

I mean, are you getting this digitizing error on all the computers attached to the unity, or just one?

If you are OMF,  look in that workspace for

    OMFI Mediafiles/System name/Creating

If you are MXF look for

    Avid Mediafiles/MXF/System Name/creating

trash ANY and all creating folders (or files) in that location.

barring that,  I'm available on thursday,  you folks still on Van Nuys blvd?

Re: "No such file or directory"...???

    Hi Doc,

Just wondering if you found a solution for this. I've go the same thing happening somewhat randomly on a 3 system MC2.8.3 w/Lanshare setup. Systems are all connected with fibre. The temp fix is to do what you've mentioned above, or to create a new Avid user. The problem will go away for a short time and then return again. Sometimes just switching back & forth between users will do the trick as well...

At this point it's more of a minor annoyance, but if you have a fix that would be great.

    TIA!

    hi jeff:

yes, we're still on van nuys (lol)

tried deleting the creating files.  didn't seem to make a diff.

based on Tia's post, it seems to be corrupted user.

I deleted the workspace and started over with a new user.  worked fine.  Then i switched to my old user settings, and voila, the problem is back!

Do you think trashing my user setttings will eliminate this problem...or do you need to come out?

Re: "No such file or directory"...???

I had this problem and it took me forever to figure it out but finally did.

The problem is that when you hit capture, Avid looks at what your capture time limit is in your settings.  If that limit is longer than your space will allow, you get that error message.  Either increase your storage space beyond your limit setting or lower your limit setting by going to your Settings tab, open up the "capture" settings, then go to the "media files" tab and lower the "maximum" capture time.

Re: "No such file or directory"...???

Thanks for the tip.  My capture settings had the clip size set to 120 mins....pretty huge.  so that may make sense.  I'll give it a shot and let you know.

    thanks. again.

Re: "No such file or directory"...???

This generally also happens when an out point is not assigned and the system becomes conflicted because it does not know if it has sufficient space remaining in the currently selected workspace to successfully capture the entire clip.

Re: "No such file or directory"...???

JohnF and Larry - thanks! You're absolutely right, the problem was with the maximum capture time setting. We are logging & capturing on the fly, therefore no out point is set on the start of capture. As soon as there was just under 20GB remaining on the Unity workspace, the Avid calculated that there was not enough room left on the drive based on the default amount of time set for max capture.

    Cheers,

    Mark

You're welcome, Mark. It's a very common problem, also on local drivesets as well.
