Used to run Xpress Pro and Protools (002) on xw8400 with no problem. Recently upgraded to MC and now MC works fine, Protools seems to work fine but on launching Protools a warning saying that Protools has deteceted a driver install error and may be slow in record and playback. There appears to be actually no performance degredation but Iwould like to get rid of this message on starting Protools.
We installed Protools before MC because in the old days of Xpress Studio the advice was always that the editor should be the last element installed (though I realise the days of incompatable Digidesign drivers are probably over).
Anyone got any ideas? Don't mind a full re-install if needed, but would like to understand the issue first.
Thanks guys.
Hugh
Hi Hugh,
Your issue is most likely that a newer audio driver was installed with the MC.
Having Xpress Pro and ProTools on the same system was only supported in some very specific bundles, labled as "Studio". If the MC you installed is not from the same studio bundle as your ProTools, it will most likely not work.
I'll suggest you put in an additional harddrive, and install Protools on that.
You can then dual-boot your system to be either Avid or ProTools.
Best Regards,
Kim
Thanks for that Kim. I was hoping it wasn't the case. I am about to install 2.8.3 and see what happens (might do a rebuild while I am at it) and I note that 2.8.3 download page says:
"Avid Media Composer 2.8.3 is compatible with version 5.7 of Avid Studio Toolkit, Avid Xpress Studio Complete and Avid Xpress Studio Essentials."
I'll get back and let everyone know if the problem goes away in case anyone else suffers this.
Cheers,
Down the road, Avid promises to have better system integration between MC and ProTools. You may have to work around a bit for now, but it is definetly something they are striving for.
I am running MC 2.8 and Ptools 7.1 (Digi002) quite easily on my system (not studio bundle). I had a few issues when I installed, but after reinstalling PT a few times, it suddenly worked, and has not stopped or paused since.
Make sure you read the bit about connecting the Mojo "sync" to the audio hardware "wordclock" . If you search a bit, I have given a full explanation elsewhere on this forum.
Works great. Keep trying.
Good luck!
OK. I did a complete system rebuild and this time installed MC 2.8.3 before ProTools 7.4 cs3 and it seems to have done the trick (so far, not sweated it yet). So it appears MC 2.8.3 works with the PT 7.4 cs3 audio drivers but not the other way around.
The download page says that MC 2.8.3 is compatible with Studio Elements and Complete but the readme for MC 2.8.3 says PT and MC cannot reside on the same machine...rather contradictory.
I assume what they mean is that all the export/import funtionality between the 2 apps still works but only if they are on different machines. For those of us that use our Digidesign hardware as the audio card for MC this is a major issue.
Anyone else got any idea how best to make these 2 apps play nicely on the same machine? Avid?
Thanks,
There s an incompatiblity issue between a dll in Protools and a dll in Avid. Those dll's have the same name, but are not compatible. As Kevin wrote... they are working on the case to get this solved. Be patient

Be nice if Avid would do ]a compatability chart for versions of Avid Quicktime and Protools for Mac and PC!!! I am guessing at present it would be a VERY short list.
jknikman:Be patient More than a decade of waiting already so I guess another couple of years wont be that hard.

1) same here on a windows system
2) I think it will not be years.
