    I think you're asking if you should purchase a Davinci. Is this in addition to your DS? If so, sure, if you have the client demand.

    Well... hummmm..... guess my questions are;

    1) Can you see a ROI on the investment that will recapture fast enough to offset the depreaction of that box + O&O + matainence + salarys?

    2) Is there an upgrade path that will mitigate the depreaction?

    3) Who / where is the competition in your market?

    4) How will you market your facility to create a viable biz model?

    5) Are you trying to open up new markets?

    If you have done due dilligance and the above are answered, and the investment makes sense.. thin the question really is what are your other options?

    Are you looking for DS as an option to a DaVinci - or a DaVinci to add to an existing DS?

    Guess i'm not to clear about what is being asked here..... more information is needed before opnion can be given ;-)

    The only general thoughts i have is; i think that most DaVinci's are boat anchors unless you are doing alot of dailies Xfers... there's quite a few gathering dust in Vancouver right now.

    Luster & Baselight are the big boys on the block these days for gradeing long form & series TV, most of that is shooting on HD.. hence the DaVinci's and Xfer machines are turned off, and the colorists are laid off...

    I would not be doing it.. but that's becuase i can make a case for having more fun throwing money into a furnace and watching it burn.....

    To be honest, I think that Da vinci is not necessary in my studio too, but what's it designed for?...DI?

    ps:I've had a MCA and some Xpress pro hd already and I'm planning to purchase  a DS soon.

    How did you come to the idea that you should get a DaVinci? -If I read your last post right, you dont't even know what it's there for...

    We have a DaVinci and a Pandora Pogle here and I can tell you that these machines only make sense if you have the right operator there! You will need a senionr colorist to get the machine making the profit that it was built for!

    The DaVinci is a colorgrading system and nothing else! If you are thinking about DS Nitris OR DaVinci - get the DS!

    It's more flexible and a little easier to get into it and you can do colorgrading too - not as fast as on the DaVinci but that is why there are "tools for everything" and tools for "special duties".
