I know that is probably against the forum rules. But I was wondering, with XPressPro and MC so closely related, and with the XPress Pro forum still 3 times larger than the MC forum, don't I stand a chance of missing some possible replies by posting only in the MC forum? Or does everyone hop back and forth like I do anyway? Can I post in MC and then post in XPressPro with a link to my MC post? Or is that getting too complicated?
Just trying to maximize the possibilities for replies, but I don't want to mess up the forum.
No. Please do not double post. The moderators will move your thread if it is not getting the proper attention. Since your thread appears in the Active column to the right, all users can see your post.

Hi,
If your post is MC related, post it in the MC forum. It's not as active as the XP forum, but it's still pretty active, and I can't speak for everyone, but I check through all the forums I know something about rather than just sticking to one. Also, as more and more people migrate to MC, it will eventually be as active as the XP forum.
In any case, don't post the same problem in two forums, because you'll have different people helping you in two places, and it'll be hard for us to figure out what troubleshooting steps you've already tried, or if your problem is solved.
If you're not getting a response to a thread, just reply to it with the word "bump" to move it back to the top and let everyone know you still need help.
good luck,Carl

Yeah, it's supposed to be on every page but, when the forum switched over, we lost it on the product pages. Avid says it will come back though.
I'm not sure that the Xpress Pro forum is still the more active. I check both, and today when I first started up there was a page and a half of posts on this forum and just over half a page on Xpress Pro-PC. And it's been that way for at least two weeks.
I have one bookmark... http://community.avid.com/forums/TopicsActive.aspx?ForumID=-1 Takes me to "Active Topics" and I can quickly scan the subject lines and because I'm using Firefox I can right-click and choose "open in new tab" (same goes for IE7) Then I just hop through the tabs.... makes browsing the forum and staying on top of things so much easier.

And we do. Bottom line. Double posting is not permitted. If you post in two forums, we will delete one of them. The reason is simple, this is not only a forum for discussion, it is also an ongoing database of answers for user to search and find solutions. To that end, we try to keep the information as succinct as possible and in as close to one location as possible in order to follow the progress of a problem. That way, not only other users, but Avid support as well can find and follow the progress on a particular issue.
It isn't really up for a debate. This is the direction we've been given as to how to manage the forums so that is what we have to do.
Who do you think?
daktulus:"because you'll have different people helping you in two places" would be very helpful wouldn´t it?
In theory it would, but in practice what results is two sets of people working on the same problem independently without collaboration. Thus, neither one knows what troubleshooting steps have already been tried by the other, or even if the problem has already been solved.
The original poster often only pays attention to the thread that is getting the most replies, thus leaving other users wondering if their posts are being read or not, and leading to frustration when they realize they've been trying to help someone who is no longer paying attention.
So we keep it simple: one post per problem.
Seems like the key to this is using the "active threads" list... but it would be nice if it was a longer list, they tend to drop off pretty fast which IMHO could cause a lot of bumping.
I agree, it is a tricky one. It is exacerbated by the sub divisions for PC or MAC, not sure what the answer is, I agree with the Moderators in that I wouldn't want the same thread appearing in half a dozen different places but you do wander if all the people that could assist with a query are actually aware of your query.
I'm off for the weekend, take care all
