    Adding Another VideoRaid RTR320

     HPxw8400 Workstation xeon

    MCA 2.7

I need more viedo storage, so I'd like to add a 2nd RTR320, and I have two options for connecting:

Daisy Chain to first drive or use 2nd SCSI connection.

    Help me pick a winner.

I believe that using the 2nd scsi channel will provide the best performance, but I'm not sure if modern systems will see that much of a benefit... To be "safe" I'd definitely use the second channel.  Also, they should be RAID 0ed together for maximum performance.  If the individual RTR320s are setup as raid 5, then you should get a big performance gain while maintaining the redundancy that RAID5 provides...

    Theoretically.

Actually, they are set up as a hardware RAID 3, being an entire drive on each set is set aside for parity. If you have the 2TB version, then you have two RAID 3's. Then you stripe the two "disks" together in Windows.

And be sure to make partitions around 250GB in size. Much bigger and you'll run into issues. I believe Avid has a limit as to the number of mxf's it can make on a partition. Somwhere around 10,000 I think.

And yes you benefit from using the second channel. It doubles your capacity vs the daisy chain method.
