    Re: DVCproHD

I go this route all the itme. Work in an HD project (1080/59.94-I'm in NTSC land) when the project's locked I export a QT ref (project dimensions, same as codec) load into Sorenson (Squeeze 4.5) pop on a mpeg2 preset: compression flavor of your choice (if less than an hour I max it with 2 pas vbr, 8500kbs pcm audio) frame size is the standard (for NTSC) 720X480 If the client wants a 16X9 DVD I check "unconstained" (to create the anamorphic SD image) If the client wants 4X3 I apply a filter preset that crops off 240 pixels from each side, and check "maintain". Third option is to check "lettterbox/pillor" and you'll get a letterboxed 4X3. Hit the squeeze button, and go get a beer, transcoding from HD to SD (especially with a crop) can take a while in Sorenson.

    good luck

    Re: DVCproHD

I just did a project in DVCProHD 720p, and I would just export a full-quality reference file (Avid DV100 Codec). In Avid DVD, I'd simply add it as a normal video. On "Burn" it would transcode it down to SD for the DVD before it burned. It worked great, and looked amazing. Obviously, by going directly to DVD from the reference file doesn't give nearly as much control, but it was the fastest and easiest workflow for me.
