20k? That's WITH a CPU.
My apologies Mike, I was being a little flippant. It may be a bit more than that. The Nitris works in tandem with the CPU and GPU to make everything a lot quicker.
For those of us doing a lot of true HD, the Nitris really is a very nice addition. Whatever it is doing with the system it feels really good.
Not terribly technical but, for those of us who have struggled with Adrenaline, a welcome change.
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

MIkeFilm: so is it true 20k for 2 extra streams? will this be another adrenaline box? Mike
so is it true 20k for 2 extra streams?
will this be another adrenaline box?
Mike
What I'm still not convinced by is how much acceleration there is due to the Nitris box and if it is just unlocking extra processing like the original Mojo did with 1:1 SD with Xpress Pro.
Are those 2 extra streams really due to the hardware DNxHD? I doubt that will ever be clear.
[Mod Edit]
Please do not latch onto my "2 streams" comment. I was being flippant and not quoting anything remotely technical. Performance is much different in many ways without the Nitris attached.
It seems it is much more like the (very good) classic Nitris, but at a pricing that is nearly half of what Adrenaline used to be.
Also, my experience has been that one uses the video boards much longer than the PC's. My Meridien boards were in use for over 7 years, on different CPU's.
VGUK2:Do you often go off on one like this? It's only Tuesday after all.
No - I just don't do the passive agressive BS. Think of it as my American way.
VGUK2:I'm glad you earn more than editors I've always thought discussing salaries is quite vulgar though. My question re: tech support was because you seem unduly fixated by tech specs that's all.
Your judgement on vlugarity is quite a non issue.
Regarding technical aspect - I thought we are discussing technical things here :/
VGUK2: With your permission of course. Have you tried turning it off and on again....

Have you tried RTFM?

VGUK2:I _was_ interested in what changes a new CEO and "New Thinking" might bring. I am _no longer_ interested. Price/performance/functionality continue to favour FCP/Studio+3rd party hardware.
If if are you longer interested, why don't you stop posting? You haven't contributed anything to this thread, so what's the point? Buy FCP and move on. If/when you choose Avid, and you have something to contribute, post it. Otherwise....why?
Michael.
Ok boys. Let's keep this to the topic. I'm close to locking this thread as it is.

I thought it was obvious that I was trying to understand what the DX boxes brought to the party particularly the Nitris box. It would appear to be the only one with some merit.
I realise that BLKDOG is limited in what he can say about the product but it would be better if customer actually knew what's in the box so to speak. As I pointed out earlier there isn't too much on the product pages that differentiate the Mojo to the Nitris. As the detailed first post showed; the Avid hardware to be several times more expensive that other 3rd party hardware and there is nothing in the official Avid literature that is explaining why these new boxes are great value for money even at the premium price point.
switthaus:Now if they would just KILL Symphony and put all those development/marketing funds into one combined MC product...let us pick the IO for that one product....
Once again the DS guy in Scott takes hold. Still hurting after all these years the DS folks are begging for anything to kill Symphony.
Avid should also kill DS by that logic and just have MC.
In my market, the Symphony brand still carries an added value. I can charge more for a Symphony room. I need that edge as the rest of the room costs more from monitoring to decks. People attach the Symphony name to finishing and the MC name to offline. This has been branded for at least 10 years now.
Why should Avid kill it if they can get more for it? Why would I want it killed if I can get more for it? Since it's the same code, the development doesn't cost any extra. So other than sour grapes over Avid's handling of DS, what really great reason is there to kill the Symphony brand?
VGUK2:As I pointed out earlier there isn't too much on the product pages that differentiate the Mojo to the Nitris.
Be a little more patient. Product marketing is working to flesh out the "think different" site with more printed materials and more info on the boxes. The site should be finished before the product launches.
I don't think it will be much use to you though as your focus seems to be on the commodity rather than the process. Not a bad thing or an intent to be derogatory, that's your position and it's cool. Avid is just not set up do compete in that arena. For you, the lower price of the FCP/AJA setups work better so, please go in peace and use those.
VGUK2:I was interested to see what the new thinking had achieved and can categorically state for the record that I am absolutely not interested in the Avid product line.
So you'll be leaving now?!?!? :-)

I wouldn't be too opposed to the killing off of Symphony. Just make like Xpress Pro and roll it all into MC. Yea, MC is associated with offline and symphony online, but just roll the product into one and brand it as a do-all product. Heck, keep the name Symphony instead of Media Composer so as to not kill off the added value that is provided.
I think the trimmer you can make the product line, the easier it is for potential customers to understand. Take Windows for example. All Window Vista versions are the exact same with the exact same code base. The only thing you buy when you pay for one is the ability to unlock certain things. Obviously this ticks off consumers, and it confuses them at the same time. The DS on the other hand is a completely different beast, so I don't necessarily see it as the same thing as killing off the DS. MC and Symphony are just too close to the same product for it's own good. MC is just a "crippled" Symphony so to speak, just as Xpress was to MC.

Gunna make me? :)
VGUK2 Your welcomed to your opinions, but Avid won't
be coming out with a break out box and won't warranty hardware for 3 yrs.
Adrenaline used?
VGUK2:Gunna make me? :)
No, but I will if you can't stay on topic and cease the antagonistic remarks.
