I have been outputing a QT Ref file from Avid, then imported it into Sorenson. I've set the conversion at a data rate of 9570 and 2-pass VBR. The resulting video on the DVD often strobes during pans and camera moves. The weird thing is that this will happen on some DVD players and not others..and even then not every time on the same player. Anyone know what's going on?
QT files have issues. Try outputing mpeg2 file. No strobing on DVD.
Issues? Such as?
For some reason Xpress DV does not like to export mpeg2 files. Besides, as I understand it, QT reference files contain no actual media but use Quicktime referencing to the OMF files on the hard drive (someone correct me if I'm wrong about that). I output another DVD this morning. It strobes on my 26" CRT HD television using a Toshiba SD DVD player, but not on my 19" SD television using an Emerson DVD/VHS combo player. It strobes ever so slightly using the DVD player on the Mac Pro I have at work. Could this be an encoding issue within Sorenson?
When you say strobing... to me that's as if it would be flashing of some sort every other frame. Is it possible what you are seeing is more like interlace flicker in higher detail areas? If so try deinterlacing in your encoder.
Yes, I guess it would be a combination strobe/flicker effect. Almost as if the video is skipping frames during camera moves and pans. Avid doesn't give me a de-interlace option but I have been using the progressive setting in Sorenson Squeeze.
