I have MCA 2.8.0 on a MacPro Quad 3 GHz, 5 GB RAM, QT 7.2.
I've installed a couple different 3rd Party Plug-Ins that we use quite regularly in our house, Boris Continuum Complete 4.2.2 and Sapphire 2.052-UB, both of which are supposed to be compatible with my Intel Mac.
Upon using any of the effects from either of the two plug-ins, including older effects from BCC, BCC3, and Sapphire avx1, I recieve an error "Exception: AParamItem::ParamIDToUniqueIdentifier - unable to convert paramID to UID." The seqeunce is then useless, it is impossible to delete the effect, as doing so crashes MCA out to the desktop.
I've installed, and re-installed, uninstalled, re-installed both of these plug-ins numerous times and still get the same result when I place any of the effects on a clip in my sequence, trying different media, differnent projects, etc.
Has anyone else had this issue or is there a compatibility issue I'm not seeing?
You should not have BCC3 or Sapphire AVX1 on that system.
Try uninstalling everything. Can you apply an Avid Pan and zoom without that error? If so, install just BCC 4.2.2. Do not install the AVX1 plugs. Does that work with just the AVIX 2 plugs installed?
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?
FCP2Avid
Upon uninstalling Sapphire and only installing the AVX2, I get the same issue.
Once I place the effect, it's fine, when I delete the effect, my MCA quits to the desktop.
I have many other workstations with various cpu types and versions from 2.7.5 on up to 2.8.0 and everyone seems to be fine with their plug-ins...
The only thing I haven't done is re-install MCA...
You didn't answer my question. If you uninstall ALL the plugs, can you replicate the behavior with just the Avid Pan and Zoom?
Also, you might want to check permissions on that system.
Sorry. Things got busy yesterday and I didn't have time to troubleshoot.
Today, I completely uninstalled all plugs, the Avid Pan and Zoom does not have any similar effect. I can add and delete the effect at will...

Well, that means that the plug in architecture inside the app is working. So, I'm inclined to suspect a problem with read/write somewhere. If you reinstall the software and still have the issue, you need to look at the permissions for the folder LIBRARY>APPLICATIONS SUPPORT>AVID and then for the AVX2 folder inside the Avid folder.
Alrighty.
So looking at the AVID folder in Application Support, I find that we have owner=user with Read & Write, group=staff with Read only, and others have Read only access.
The AVX2 folder is set up as follows: owner=user with Read & Write, group=admin with Read & Write, and others have Read & Write
I'm guessing I should be changing the AVID folder to be something similar to the AVX folder?
I would definitely give that a try.
Unfortunately the same result. As soon as I go to delete the Sapphire effect, Avid quits to the desktop...
I repaired permissions in general and also check the permissions on the Avid application folder and shared Avid folder... everything checks out there as well.
Right but you've skipped a step (at least you've left it our here), did you reinstall the Avid?
Before you do though, create a new user file and a new project and see if you can duplicate this there. If the problem remains, delete the MCState and the Site settings. If you STILL have the problem, then reinstall the software.
Deleting MCStates and Site settings did not solve anything.
Will reinstall Avid when I can get enough downtime. Possibly tomorrow. Will keep you informed. Thanks for sticking with me on this one.
SOLUTION!
I finally got a chance to troubleshoot some more. I upgraded my MCA to 2.8.3 and it has resolved the issue completely (thus far). I'm able to add, manipulate, and delete AVX plug-ins at will.
I did not try just reinstalling 2.8.0, but went right on to 2.8.3 so I'll never know if a simple reinstall would be the fix. I'm just glad it's working now!
