Hello,
I've gotten very familiar with the Xpress Pro keyboard layout and when I was working in Media Composer I noticed that I could not Zoom In / Zoom out of the timeline using the arrow up and down keys that I used on Xpress Pro.
I looked around the command palette and did not see anything to map to my Media Composer keyboard to do the same thing. I know I could focus, but I like the gradual zoom in / out on the arrow keys.
I know that I can use ctrl + brackets with Media Composer to do the same thing, but I would rather use the arrow up and down keys.
Thanks for any help.
It's More Detail and Less Detail (I think) that you need to map to your keyboard. It's in the timeline fast menu.
Michael.
Hi,
Michael's right. It's More Detail and Less Detail.
adios,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
You also have a slider bar on the timeline tool that will gradually zoom in or out as you drag it.

Got It!
Thank You All!
One thing I've done recently to speed up my workflow, is to use some of the newer features on my mouse. Some newer mice allow you to tilt your mouse wheel to the right and left. I've used the mouse-mapping software that came with my mouse to bind cntl+] and cntl+[ to the wheel tilts. I tilt my mouse wheel to the right, zoom on timeline. Bam. Just thought I'd share that since I've enjoyed it so much myself.
On the subject of arrow key tips then...
My fav is to map find bin to the right arrow. Then you can eaisly switch between clips in a bin by hitting right / down / enter. Try it and I bet it speeds your workflow as your mouse pointer can stay over the scrub area in the monitor. No more mousing around hunting and pecking.
I've been editing on Avid DS for a year and a half, and my fingers sometimes still move toward Control-Brackets to expand or contract the timeline!

New MC users, be advised that the up and down arrow keys default function is to step in and step out of an effect for nesting. If you map other functions to those arrows, be sure to re-map your nesting step in and step out functions as well.
You can have both functions by mapping the timeline more/less detail to shifted down/up keys. Then you're reaching for the same keyboard area as you previously used to.
Although it might be better to learn to use MC like an MC.
I've always used the Up/Down arrows for More/Less Detail (pre-XpressPro/DV), just seemed like I used those more than Stepping In/Out. So, I moved Step In/Out to Shift Up/Down.
Find Bin for me is Shift+/ (or "?" on my us english keyboard) again... cause it makes sense to me.
