I'm eagerly awaiting MC 2.7 being delivered to run on my Macbook Pro 2.33 2GB ram... and it only occurred to me today that my deck is a DSR1500p - it has an SDI card rather than a firewire one - so needs a remote.
I have access to a Mojo SDI, so that's not a problem - but how do I connect a remote to my Macbook pro? My current thinking is to get a USB to Serial adapter, and then a Rosetta stone (RS232-to-422 converter) and connect to the deck.
Has anyone done this? Will it work? And can anyone tell me where I can get a Rosetta Stone in England reasonably cheaply?
Thanks in advance!
why not get a usb-rs422 converter?

That'd be ideal - has anyone done this with success?
And is it going to cost around $80, or should I be able to find it cheaper?
.- A little bit cheaper

The keyspan is the only supported configuration and it's what most of us use. It's also the recommended method of deck control over FW.
Rosetta Stone is PC only.

.- Nope, look again, in the drivers.
Okay - thanks for the help so far. I've noticed the Keyspan is not PC compatible... if I went for my original idea of USB to serial adapter and a seperate 422 adapter will this work on both PC and Mac?
I'm asking because the deck and Mojo are joint owned by myself and a guy with a PC based Avid setup, who also has no current remote cable setup.
I'll pay whatever's necessary to get it working, but like to keep costs as low as possible! Is it likely to be cheaper to go for the seperate bits? Again - confirmation from anyone working with the setup I'm describing would be greatly appreciated. I'm not too lazy to look at prices myself - just want to be sure that the bits I buy will actually do the job!

Doesn't matter what the drivers say. It sucks on Macs and is not supported by Avid.
Here's the thing. With Mojos attached, it's not the decks that need FW, it's the drives. You can hook the deck directly to the Mac's FW port or into the DV port on the Mojo.

If you can manage it - you really are better off buying two serial control systems: The Keyspan for your Mac ($78) and an active 422/232 Addenda converter cable for your PC ($98). There really isn't a stable cross-platform controller for Avid.
Note: Although you can get the less expensive 2/3 adapter cable for the PC - and it is spec'd to work with the Avid - it doesn't always work with all systems. Something to do with signal level changes on modern PC's motherboard serial ports. See the Addenda notes on their 2/8 adapter for more information.
