Hi, So I installed Avid Free this morning on my OS X 10.4.10 and it totally messed up my computer, it basically wouldnt start up, it would get to the icons on desktop stage and then go back to black.  And it just ran in a loop like that, over and over. I reinstalled my OS X to 10.4 and I no longer have the problem.  I cant recall if the QuickTIme I had was more recent than 7.0 but it is currently 7.0 and my computer is running fine with the Avid Free Software.

So my question is, I am probably going to need to update my OS X and my QuickTime but I am afraid I will get the same computer problems if I have this Avid Free on there- does anybody know of any incompatibilities with Avid Free OS X 10.4.10 or more recent versions of QuickTime?

Free DV was discontinued a LONG time ago. It is not supported on  any Intel Mac OS, whatsoever.

I would go so far as to say do not install Free DV on any Mac past a G4 running 10.4.6.

Hi, Unfortunatley AVID will not work with any OSX that's newer that 10.4! Crazy I know. Also it will not work with any Quicktime newer than 7.0 (which is old). It may be that it WILL work with a newer system than 10.4 HOWEVER OSX automatically updates quictime so it has the same effect. If anyone knows how I can update my OS without updating my quicktime id love to know. Last time i ran updates I had to lose everythign and reboot.

The problem Im having now is that itunes will not work with my new ipod (1yr old!) unless i update it, I cant update it though unless I update my OSX, upon install I will lose all AVID functions.

Theres only so long I can hold on to such out of date software and I often find myself justifying using AVID to to my bosses but have been wondering why for a long time now. We desperatly need something more up to date that is capable of working with system updates. THE MONEY WE PAY FOR AVID I THINK THEY HAVE A DUTY TO LOOK AFTER US, OR VERY SOON FINAL CUT WILL HAVE THE EDGE
