I am learning first hand the many complications and struggles of using and converting to HD. Not a simple task!!!
I have HD720p/60 footage shot and stored onto P2 cards. I figured out how to use the media tool to open the footage in my Composer system by opening a project at a HD setting. So now I can see the footage and edit. I would like to export to a tape to archive the footage.
I want to export to DVCpro50 which can only recognize 480i/60. Problem is I do not have an option that is not HD when trying to transcode. If I open a project in 480 you can not see the HD footage or work with it. So I am stuck with HD footage and nothing to do with it.
Any solutions?
Try changing the project type in the Format Tab (Project window).
If not, start a new NTSC project. Open the bin and transcode from there.

This is what is happening to me.
When opening a new project you have to select the format. the footage is in 720 so in order to see the footage you have to open a project in 720. Now the machines that I have can only recognize 480. so I would like to transcode. Unfortunately the only option I have is a HD format.
If I open a project in 480 there are all sorts of non-HD transcoding formats to select. Problem is the 480 project does not recognize the 720 media.
I am running composer 2.6.2 that might be the problem. Just frustrated. I would like to archive the footage on to a tape. I know I will loose the HD quality but it is not use if I can not work with it.
What are your system specs? Are you using Adrenaline? You should be able to turn on SD downconvert in the video output tool, and use the SD output to lay to tape. Unless this option is not available in 720 projects. I do everything at 1080.
