So, I tried to import some P2 clips into they Nitris, but it says that it cannot read the files because they are not MXF files, but they clearly are. I tried dragging the Video files into our storage drive's MXF-->1 folder, but it gave me the same message when it attempted to rebuild the databases on startup. Trying to raise the files with the Media Tool also gives me an error, forcing me to close the program.
Any suggestions?
Also, does anyone know if it's possible to import P2 clips at an "m" resolution to edit with? Say, something like, 4:1m?
Are you importing them straight off the card or off a drive which had the card copied to it ? I ask this because I've had a few files get corupted in the copying process.
If you have the original card just go through the process again. Sadly with a doc here the client had the cards wiped which meant they lost valuable footage.

I am trying to import them off of a drive they were copied to, but my boss was able to import them fine about a month ago. I'm just trying to do a test so I'm prepared for the next time I have to deal with P2 footage. So far, it's not going so well.
Any other suggestions, anyone?
You have to make sure that you import from the top level of directory(clips to bin), not the mxf files themselves. This will bring all of the clips in the directory in....But they are still not fully imported until you actually import the media (import media)....it is a 2 step process that is documented here on the Avid website : http://www.avid.com/p2/
hope this helps

I had a seperate p2 question hope someone can help. I have read through every pdf from avid and panasonic so I feel like I am pretty much up to speed.
I have some p2 media that was recorded at 1080i (hvx-200). I opened a 1080i/59.94 project and used the media tool to drag the master clip to my bin. When I try to play the clip on my sn 1.8.1 it stutters and looks quite jumpy. I was able to play the clip fine on our Media Composer (2.8.1). The clip is on our unity. In the bin it says it's 1080i/59.94 format but 29.97 fps. Am I missing something here? Also when I was on the Media Composer the clip played out to the monitor (through the adrenaline) when I was in green/yellow mode. But when I was in green/green mode it would not. Does that mean I have to transcode to dnx in order to get full quality (and to output?).
thanks,
-Peter B

That is normal. Symphony Nitris can't handle native P2 media very well. AFAIK it takes a lot of CPU cycles to handle the thin raster material. You need to transcode it to DnxHD if you want to work with it there.
Good news on the horizon, Symphony Nitris DX doesn't have this problem as the Nitris DX box handles the thin raster material.
Thanks for the responce Terence. I guess that makes sense as the SN wasn't really designed for HDV and P2... but I was still suprised as the MC and XPRO could play it ok (and they don't have as much horsepower). Glad the new boxes will handle the material. I assume the MOJO DX and NITRIS DX boxes will provide the thin raster support?
