There are really only four likely culprits here:
You've established the deck works with other suites. I assume you've ruled out the 422 adapter by testing it with other units.
1. Your RS422 cable is dead or a pin is bent..
2. The serial port or asscoiated hardware on your PC is dead
3. The drivers for your serial port have been replaced with incompatible ones - this is common: replace your serial port drivers with Microsoft's stock standard drivers.
4. You have a resource conflict with the serial port. Check that you haven't installed any other software or hardware which might conflict with the serial port.
BTW none of this is valid if you can autoconfigure other RS422 controlled decks.
Old enough to have used 2" , 1" and D3 as my first VTRs. However I didn't start using Avid until a few years ago. I did get the pleasure of using Lightworks for a very short period during the early 90s though. I spent my early years mainly in linear suites.
Sadly Sep the 70+ hours weeks have caught up with me recently and I do feel like an 80 year old.
Any news from capnd , did she resolve the issue ?
I hate television. I hate it as much as I hate peanuts. But I can't stop eating peanuts.

OK, but you seem to act like a young pretty and charming girl who refuses to say how old actually she is !

A young girl for sure !
My wife will think that's really funny although when I cut myself she says I'm more of a big baby.
You 2 ?
Okay. so it turns out that I am the one who is an old and tired girl and not the deck. All deck control was lost earlier this week and I was able to steal the cables and rosetta stone adapter from our closed captioning machine and now I have deck control.
Thank you everyone for all of your help! I wish I couldn't have responded sooner but I was booked on a few jobs.
Happy you finally could figure out !
