    Re: Mac Pro GFX Card

From what I have read, Avid suggests that all Avid users should use GeForce gfx cards.  If I were buying a new Mac Pro right now, I'd get the GeForce 8800 b/c I can connect both my LCD monitors to the gfx card through DVI.

Yep. Just know that the 8800 is ONLY supported in Leopard. Apparently no drivers for it in Tiger.

And the GeForce 8800 is a PCI Express (PCIe) interface, so it'll only work in late models of the G5 and all Mac Pros.

    Thanks!

This is going to be my home computer so I don't need to have media composer running on it right away.  I just want to be sure that it will eventually be supported.

Was just looking at the qualified work stations pdf.  Do I have to get the 3.0GHz?  The 2.8GHz is $800 cheaper.

    Re: Mac Pro GFX Card

It'd probably work just fine, but if you want to have "Avid support" and not deal with the lectures associated with not being on an "Avid certified system" then that's $800 out of your pocket.

Another way to look at it would be getting a 3.0Ghz will probably last you about a year or two longer.  If you're going to drop the money to get a Mac Pro, then you might as well have it last as long and far into the future as possible.
