My company is wanting to buy a PMW-EX1. Can I get a Platform from AVID that isn't Symphony Nitris (We can't Afford that) that will support this format.
BTW my question is differant than the last guy's question. I just want to know if it's supported on PC.
According to various reports, Media Composer 2.8.3, released today, supports native editing of EX XDCAM media.
Fiendish,
Where is 2.8.3 available? I do not see it on the avid download center -- do you mind providing a link? We've been waiting for 35Mb XDCAM EX support for months...
Keith
I've posted all the info at the top of the Mac forums if you are interested.
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

Thanks, BLKDOG - I don't usually look at the Mac side of things Avid as we're all Avid PC-based.
Managed to find the link -- here it is:

Well, nobody's perfect....

Ah, you know me well!
So, duly downloaded and read the readme -- but not a mention at all about 35Mb support for XDCAM EX media. Will upgrade and see if there are any signs that it might support it.
To answer the original poster -- Avid already supports 25Mb EX files, just not the HQ/35Mb flavors.
No mention in the read me but I double checked with Avid and that feature is included in x.8.3.
Hi there.......
:) A little hidden feature..........XDCAM EX MP4 25 or 35 Mbps clips can be imported into the Avid editor using the Sony Clip Browser Software to rewrap the MP4 files into MXF compatible files which can then be imported into Media Composer / Xpress Pro using the standard XDCAM import methods.
enjoy......

Thanks both to BLKDG and Marianna confirming this -- odd, though, that it wasn't explicitly mentioned in the readme, as it's a feature that a number of Avid users have been waiting for. Or perhaps include a chart in the readme of the acceptable mxf file types that can be imported.
Sony has started offering the PDW 700 XDCAM 4:2:2, 2/3 inch chips, 50 Mbps but no 24p yet. Hopefully in a year or so (after the folks with F900’s have had a chance to pay them off) we will see 100Mbps or greater with 24p. But at this point will MC be able to handle 50Mbps? I personally think the XDCAM is going to be the new BETACAM ( in quantity of sales) of the future.

Hi Marianna,
Does this mean that we can separate out the full rez audio?
Ra-ey Q: "How many Editors does it take to change a lightbulb?" A: "Why do you want to change it?"
