So here is the scenario... We had the NVIDIA 1500 in our machine for a few weeks. We were getting video tearing on our monitors (not output to deck, just the monitors) when we edited DVCPRO HD native so we upgraded to the NVIDIA 3500. The problem is still there exaclty the same so it is probably from something else. Anyway, the new card was $1000. Frankly $1000 is more than we can afford to spend on something like this unless it is absolutely needed so we want to go back to the 1500 and return the 3500. To that end, is there any real benefit (besides theoretical) that we gain from having the 3500 over the 1500? We have until thursday to return the 3500 and I would like to do it unless there is a tangible reason not to? Thanks!
I think we need a few more digital HD formats

.- None.
Nothing at all.

.- Return it now.

WOW THANKS
out of curiosity, what is the difference? The 3500 was more expensive than the 1500
we are retunign it

.- It's a more powerful card, but for 3D intensive apps (3DSmax, Maya, Solidworks, Bentley, etc)
No significant improvement for something like Avid (or another NLE).
The 1500 is more than enough. Actually , It's even overkill.
A Quadro FX560 will suffice.
raspago is correct. i have the QuadroFX1300 - which last time i checked was the least expensive "avid certified" card. works like a charm. your original card (if you still have it) should be more than adequate. video tearing IS probably system-related, though your system specs look pretty good. possibly relatd to the raid-array connection speed? (assuming the video is housed there).
good luck!

our first AVID raid is connected with sata 2. (Though something tells me it is sata 3?). We have a two enclosure Gtech Raid 5 on this machine. The enclosures are 4tb (3 bay) and 3tb (3 bay)respectively
on the other AVID we have Dulce 4tb (4 bay), esata 2 also raid 5.
All the machines tear. We have had a 3500 and 1500 and they both show video tearing in the PC monitor. Via FW for digital cut they do not show the tearing but, about 1 in 200 after effects imports stutter -- EVEN after a full video mixdown and brining everything to the minimum number of tracks.
