Re: Xpress Pro 5.8.3 Now Available

I've put off registering the form until I know whether it requires the Dongle ID or the System ID.

It seems interesting to me that when I first installed my Xpress Pro kit I had to provide contact details (name etc... dongle & system IDs) with Avid at that time, and yet here I am presented with a product update and I have to provide all that information all over again to register in order to gain access.

Seems inefficient to me since Avid already have all my contact/personal details on their books. Also, as a student, I don't inhabit or run a company. Is that field on the registration form a required one?

Having read the readme, I'm not sure there's anything really of value/use to me in there, but then I do like to have the most current version possible especially when Xpress Pro is nearing EOL.

You need to input your system ID.

The reason you have to do this again is because this is a whole new system of delivery to you. All of us had to register with the Download center. The company field is not required.

You'll find that you provide this info often as it is your form of ID to Avid.

Re: Xpress Pro 5.8.3 Now Available

Okay, here is where all the confusion "for me" started. I wanted to look at the new read me file. When I tried to bring up that file in the knowledge center it required for me to register an account before I could access the file. In that registration a company name WAS required.

There is a seperate (don't know if they are tied together) registration required for the download center. That one does not require a business name. So, I assume that I will have to "register" again when I want to download 5.8.3.

It just seems confusing and duplicating the same task. Maybe I just fell into a whole in the system. I don't come to the forum all the time. I spend my time editing. Sorry.

Avid is very aware of the multi download issue and is one of the major projects for the website - to consolidate it. Just remember that the Download Center and the CPR sections are 2 different places. It used to be Download Center was for users with support contracts. This has been changed. As long as you have a registered software and a login account you will be able to go to the Download Center and see your registered products. CPR section I think is being phased out.

Hopefully, the dongle registration, KB, Forum and Download Center login will be consolidated also - or at least give you an option at registration to do join all of them.

Once again this crap (sorry)... How is it a "major" project, seriously, to consolidate couple of databases? I've overseen projects like this - like consolidating an online shop's DBs with 30k+ records with few guys and it didn't take more than a couple of weeks -, it shouldn't be such an issue un less they don't really have clue how to do it...

I really think this is BS, sorry - it's just that A) they do not want to assign (hire for?) enough people to this task or B) manager in charge is inefficient or C) incompetent as hell.

    Pick yours...

This old slow@ss, extremely foot-dragging, absurdly amateur modus operandi of Avid is not only unacceptable in 2008 but also VERY ANNOYING, let alone being ridiculously pathetic.

I mean this particular issue isn't that critical however still important and nevertheless it shows how much they care about you... this company deserves a shakeup or rather a beating from some competitor, they are waaay over their own head, this attitude is simply preposterous.

Because you had to enter you System ID twice...really? Are you being serious or just going over the top for effect?

The entire site is being overhauled and this is just a tiny piece of  the work being done. It is scheduled and it will be done. Sorry if its not fast enough for  you.

Re: Xpress Pro 5.8.3 Now Available

    camoscato:

Xpress Pro 5.8.3 is now available.  This is a Customer Patch Release.  A CPR is an update for Avid products intended to address specific problems. Because CPR testing involves a limited test cycle, CPRs should only be used when a customer’s specific issue has been resolved in that respective CPR.

    Availability

Customer Patch Releases are available from the Avid Download Center at no charge to active Avid Support Contract customers and any customers that are running 5.7.x or higher and are entitled to the 5.8.3 editor.  For those that do not have a download center account, go here:  http://www.avid.com/support/downloadcenter/accountRequest.asp

Note that customers will only be able to see the products listed on the download center that they are entitled to based on registration and/or support contract status.

I used to be able to find CPR's here... ftp://ftp.avid.com/Editor%20DNA_SOFT/   v5.8.3 is not listed.  Where do I find CPR's now?  I have registered my System ID with the "download center account request" although I don't have a support contract.  Do I have to wait 3 days for a response to find out if I can get CPR v5.8.3?

    BLKDOG,

I agree his response was over the top, but please don't make it seem like all is now suddenly well with Avid.

Yes the upgrade to MC is VERY NICE. But, for example, I have been trying to get a response on Avid's plans for Canon's 24F for over FIVE FREAKING MONTHS. I've posted in numerous threads, started my own thread, PM'd and emailed Marianna who is a certified/beatified Avid saint. But nothing. Nadda. For FIVE MONTHS. No response from anyone.

WT_ do I have to do to get an answer to a very simple question about supporting a format for a extremely popular line of cameras?

'Cause it's not happening. Not right now anyway. Let me do some digging and I'll see what I can find out for you.

and...no one said anything about anything being well with Avid. I said the whole site is being re-done. Not just this tiny piece. MC was never mentioned.

Please do look for me. I'd very much appreciate it. I realize no one mentioned MC, I just believe the upgrade is sign of things improving, which to be honset they have significantly. I registered for the download last night and got my ID an password today. So I have to give credit where it's due. But Avid has far to go.

    Two quick questions:

    1) I saw something concerning CODECS LE flash across the screen while uninstalling 5.8. Do I need to reinstall CODECS LE afer installing 5.8.3?

    2) I saved some Toolset settings in 5.8 but they appear to be gone. Is there a way to keep Toolset changes when upgrading to a new version?

    Thanks much.

Re: Xpress Pro 5.8.3 Now Available

I can answer 1, anyway. You have received a new codecs LE package  (PE for MC) as part of the install.  The old one has been removed and the new installed in its place.  You should need to do nothing further.

Rather the latter. ;) Big SmileAs I said this issue isn't critical, it's just the fact that everything is happening at dog-slow pace.Hmm

Again, it's not the site or this thing - everything or rather any change takes forever in Avid World and it's not simply frustrating anymore but rather very annoying.Hmm
