    Xpress Pro 5.8.3 Now Available

Xpress Pro 5.8.3 is now available.  This is a Customer Patch Release.  A CPR is an update for Avid products intended to address specific problems. Because CPR testing involves a limited test cycle, CPRs should only be used when a customer’s specific issue has been resolved in that respective CPR.

If you are unsure whether a specific CPR addresses your issue, check the accompanying release notes for verification. If the release notes do not mention a specific issue, contact Avid Technical Support, your Avid Account representative, or local Avid reseller prior to installing the software.

CPR updates are cumulative - the current CPR includes all prior updates. Installation of CPR software components may result in loss of data, loss of media, or other system problems.

    Requirements

These releases are for software-only, Avid Adrenaline™- and Avid Mojo® SDI-based systems running on Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs and PCs.  The new 5.8.3 CPR, includes support for Mac OS X 10.4.11, QuickTime 7.3, the Microsoft VC-1 codec, and Avid Interplay 1.2.3 (Windows). Additional enhancements are detailed in the ReadMe documentation found on the Avid Knowledge Base. Avid recommends customers read this documentation before using any new software version.

    Availability

Customer Patch Releases are available from the Avid Download Center at no charge to active Avid Support Contract customers and any customers that are running 5.7.x or higher and are entitled to the 5.8.3 editor.  For those that do not have a download center account, go here:  http://www.avid.com/support/downloadcenter/accountRequest.asp

Note that customers will only be able to see the products listed on the download center that they are entitled to based on registration and/or support contract status.

Hi. I'm using 5.8 Academic and for the first time I received an e-mail announcing this CPR release. It's the first time I've had a notification such as this and I don't know what it exactly means, and whether I'm able to use 5.8.3?

I never received any e-mails about previous version updates/upgrades/revisions, so this is kinda new to me. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Register your dongle.

Then request for a account to the Avid Download Center. The CPR will be there for you to download.

I got the same email, too. Don't see the point, however, if the download isn't there. Why not post the download, THEN send me an email?

Avid is consolidating the Download Center. All updates will be moved to the Download Center instead of the CPR. So I will repeat what I posted previously - register, request, download.

I HAVE registered. I've BEEN to the download centre. It's not there.

Avid thoughtfully provided a link in the email, sending me to look for a download that's not there. New thinking?

OK. I assumed you where looking in the CPR section instead of the login Download Center. Apologies. Contact support to check your Download Center account to make sure you it is correct.

it is there and has been since yesterday......  sign in http://esd.avid.com/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fDefault.aspx and click on Avid Xpress Pro Family - 3rd from bottom.  5.8.3 is at the top.

Re: Xpress Pro 5.8.3 Now Available

Thank you Dom and Marianna for your replies. Much appreciated, but:

The link in the email Avid sent me leads me here:

    http://www.avid.com/support/downloadcenter/index.asp

    On the page it says:

    "Additional Support Updates on Avid.com

Customers who do not have a valid Avid support contract can access support updates by selecting the appropriate product below."

I click on Avid Xpress Pro .5.8, which is the closest thing to the upgrade I am looking for. It says congrats, I'm registered and can download the file. Which, unfortunately, is not the right file. So the email Avid sent me leads me to the wrong page.

You kindly provide me with another link, which asks me to login. It tells me the email address I enter does not exist in the system, even though it seemed to exist well enough for Avid to send me an email leading me to the wrong place. And I'm registered on Avid and have downloaded updates before. But at this new link, I suddenly don't exist.

I mean, come on! Is it because I don't have a support contract? It doen't say anything about that in the email.

Thanks. I'm just frustrated that it should be easier. I DO appreciate you taking the time to reply. Very good of you both.

Okay, so now I notice that the first post in this thread, which is almost a carbon copy of the email I received, has updated links, and a link to sign up for the download center (which does not exist in the email.). Sheesh.

Re: Xpress Pro 5.8.3 Now Available

Come on Avid. Why do you guys continually make this so complicated. This is not new thinking, this is same old, same old.

All I wanted to do is read the new Readme file. I couldn't even do that without going through extra steps.

Man, this is so frustrating when it is suppose to be better (simple) customer support.

If you only want the docs, go to the Knowledge Base.  The following took 15 seconds to locate:

    camoscato,

The form is unclear in regards to which Id's to provide. The instrucitons clearly mention both Dogle ID and System ID, but there are only spaces for System ID. Can you clarify what we should enter, and maybe have the form clarified?

    Thanks much.

P.S. As anside, I've posted, PM'd and emailed concerning support for Canon's 24F format to no avail. Can you PLEASE let me know what I have to do to get some idea of Avid's plans concerning 24F? Thank you VERY MUCH.
