Avid has release 'Pro 5.8.3 as of 10:00 today. x.8.3 is a CPR release and not a full update. What is a CPR you ask?A CPR is an update for Avid products intended to address specific problems. Because CPR testing involves a limited test cycle, CPRs should only be used when a customer’s specific issue has been resolved in that respective CPR. If you are unsure whether a specific CPR addresses your issue, check the accompanying release notes for verification. If the release notes do not mention a specific issue, you can contact Avid Technical Support, their Avid Account representative, or local Avid reseller prior to installing the software. CPR updates are cumulative- the current CPR includes all prior updates. RequirementsThese releases are for software-only, Avid Adrenaline™- and Avid Mojo® SDI-based systems running on Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs and PCs. The new x.8.3 CPRs, include support for Mac OS X 10.4.11, QuickTime 7.3, the Microsoft VC-1 codec, and Avid Interplay 1.2.3 (Windows). Additional enhancements are detailed in the ReadMe documentation found on the Avid Knowledge Base. You should definitely read this documentation before using any new software version. AvailabilityCustomer Patch Releases are available from the Avid Download Center at no charge to active Avid Support Contract customers and any customers that are running x.7.x or higher and are entitled to the x.8.3 editors. For those that do not have a download center account, go here: http://www.avid.com/support/downloadcenter/accountRequest.asp Note that customers will only be able to see the products listed on the download center that they are entitled too based on registration and/or support contract status. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact your moderators and we'll get you in contact with the folks who can help. This will be the last release of Xpress 'Pro as the software is being merged with the MC line in the next major release.

I've never had a support contract for my XPress Pro, the only things I paid for were the software, then the updates to keep it current. Does that mean I'm not entitled to 5.8.3?
Please explain.
Must I have an support contract to get access to the AXP 5.8.3?
No. Marianna posted a really nice FAQ in the General Forum that should answer any questions you may have.
can't really find it,
do you have a link to the faq you're refering to?
thanx
It's the very FIRST entry under Topics, in the General Discussion & Off-Topic Forum ...

... yeah, that was hard to find :)
"Saving the world, one Avid at a time"
I saw that one, doesn't really answer the question
If I go to the ftp server I can't find 5.8.3, only 5.7.x, Does it help if I get an account?
does 5.8.x show up when you log in?
Yes, you need an account. You will see any product/version that you are entitled to.
