Q. If I buy the Avid Xpress Pro to Media Composer software upgrade today will I get the just announced release of Media Composer software, or will I need to buy another upgrade later on?
A. The current upgrade to Avid Media Composer gives you access to the current version, v2.8 which is shipping. However, if you purchase a copy of Media Composer Software after March 17, 2008 you will be able to get the upgrade from v2.8 to  v3.0 for free via the Avid Download Center.

Thanks, Carl. I checked the FAQ sheet, and it keeps saying the upgrade is free if you purchase MC 2.8.x. anytime after March 2008. My question was if I purchase 2.7.x from a retailer am I still eligible for the 2.3 upgrade.

If you purchase MC 2.7.x from a reseller then you can register the product now and download 2.8.3 free,  Anyone with 2.7.x can dwnload and use 2.8.x and do not need to update their dongle.  If you make this purchase AFTER March 17th then you are also eligible for 3.0 free.

Got to register the new product and make sure you keep your recipt.

i recently upgraded my two XPPRO-Systems to MediaComposer 2.8.

I now received an email that 2.8.3 is ready for download.

Even if i log in to AvidCommunity there is only 2.8 to be found.

What exactly do i have to do now?

I do not have a support contract but i do have two valid dongles :-)

2.8.3 is only in the download center. You need to register and, after Avid sends you your password, you will be able to access the upgrade.

Hey folks,

The dongle and MC FAQ threads were locked, so I guess this is the place to post this.  I followed the instructions on the PDF posted by BLKDOG regarding dongles, and emailed Avid to replace a Rainbow Duo dongle, in order to upgrade Xpro to MC.  They say the Rainbow Duo works with the upgrade, so there's no need to replace it.  I haven't done it yet, and I'll let you know if it works or if there's a problem.
